Multivitamin and Calcium Citrate

Recommended Posts

Alright folks, need some feedback please. I'm almost 2 months post-op, and I'm taking opurity Multivitamin, and their calcium citrate, all chewables. Thing is, it's hurting my teeth to chew these things now, and I'm looking for great alternatives. I think it's the citrus, or citric acid. I don't have any other teeth issues, (food or liquid) and I can drink oj.

I'm wondering how this liquid vitamins are, and if anyone has suggestions on either of these. I'm considering Citracal petites capsules. Has anyone else had these teeth issues from chewables??

You may be able to advance to swallow-ables.

Soft gels are easiest, then capsules, then pills. Try pills first since they are easier to come by... look for small ones, or break large ones up.

I still take my powdered Vitamins from GNC, but they are disgusting and I'm switching to pills when they're gone. They are an option if normal vites don't work for you.

I get the citrus liquid multi through, Amazon (Centrum,). Calcium Caltrate, I get the soft chews (I forgot who makes them). Everything else, is very tiny and doesn't make it a challenge to take. Watch out for the gummies and kiddo Vitamins, I was told those are the vitamins we need to stay away from.

Caltrate

Was told to stay away from caltrate since it is carbonate. Needs to be calcium citrate.

Calcium citrate and Calcium carbonate are both calcium, but are bound to different substances. Calcium carbonate, the form most commonly found in dietary supplements, requires stomach acid to be optimally digested and absorbed. It is therefore not the best choice for those who have had gastric bypass (wls) or people who regularly use medication to suppress stomach acid. Calcium citrate can be digested even by those with little or no stomach acid.

This is what I'm using, I'm happy I'm almost out. I had Caltrate 600 + D Calcium Supplement Vanillano idea O.o I think my Dr. had Caltrate on the list, knowing me, I read it wrong.

Bariatric Advantage has a new chewable for both. It looks and tastes like a starburst. The hard chalk like chewables didn't sit well.

I take these and I like them- they are my little "candy" treat four times a day. I can ignore the chalky taste but I can understand how it would put some people off.

I take the Bariatric Advantage soft chews for both. The BA chewable multivitamin that was the most expensive with Iron made me sick but the chewy square is great.

Great suggestions and advice. I've ordered some liquid calcium citrate from Sam's club, Liquid ReViva Calcium. Going to give it a whirl, see if it bothers me. I can't swallow the Flinstones, too rough, and the opurity chewables are way too big to swallow. I thought about crushing them and downing them with some mild applesauce to use up the bottle. I opted for the Bariatric multi capsule from opurity in the long run.
Thanks y'all!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
