Need help with food not remaining in my stomach.

Recommended Posts

HI everyone. I had my Lapband to mini gastric bypass revision on July 5th. So far I am feeling fine with my weight loss of 23 pounds so far, considering it is a revision. And my age of 61 both me and my nutritionist and doc think it is pretty good. My problem is that I am throwing up a lot. Almost after every meal, specially if it has meat in it. I really try to chew slowly and a lot, stop after 3-4 spoons and choose my food very carefully, and still it happens. On rare occasions it stays in. I am worried! Also having great difficulty drinking all the liquids recommended... What does go down really well is natural coconut Water, which I drink a lot of. As food. One egg goes down well, whole wheat crispies also ( I am allowed 2-3 a day of the real light crispies, usually have one at Breakfast ) and I usually eat them with cottage or egg or my homemade tunfish spread. All of the above goes down well and also stay. However, chicken, hamburger meat, or chicken liver, ground meat, that goes down with difficulty and comes out in no time at all. I am worried!! Anyone with the same.e problem? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It took me months to tolerate meat. I had to have Protein Shakes to get my Protein requirements. Probably around a year protein got easier to digest but honestly very slow process. Now at 2 years post op I can eat a steak with no issues.

Thanks blondie, I just ordered more protein powder... Will try with that for a while...hope I can tolerate the Proteins from food sooner than that.. Thanks a lot.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
