September Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I have been working with my endocrinologist for a year now, and have finally received a surgery date of Sept. 19, 17. Starting my 2 week pre-op soon and would like to know if anyone out there would like to be a buddy while going through the pre-op thru surgery to post-op. I have a bit of good support and think I need to communicate with someone who actually knows what I am going thru. Not that it matters but I am a male, 61 yrs and live in Kansas. 275#, 5'9", BMI 40. I am going to lose minimum 75# as I am broad shouldered and don't want to get to skinny, just healthy enough to get off of meds for diabetes 2, high blood pressure, some bi-polar issues if this is possible and sleep apnea.

Hi - My surgery date is September 12 with the same surgeon. I'd love to be your buddy. I am dealing with some of the same co-morbidities. My goal is to get off meds and the CPAP. I travel some for work and it's a pain to have to drag that machine along all the time. I start the pre-op diet on August 29 and have to travel for work at least twice while on the liquid diet. Ugh!

Sounds great, so since we live in the same area and have the same Dr. with our sleeves being 1 week apart, that's unique.

Your'e not far off from starting your 2 week pre-op, how are you dealing with that? I am starting that phase in a few weeks and coping with it OK for now, but when the day comes I will be ready. Psychology plays a huge role I am finding out in this new journey.

I am getting a bit nervous about it. You are correct. Psychology will play a huge part. I'm still second guessing my decision at times when my dad questions me about why I am having the surgery. Do you know anyone personally who has had the surgery?

I have a friend that had the sleeve surgery and she has done very well. She is one of my go to people in my support group. Since you are seeing Dr. Fearing, I would call her office for a support group. I went to one 2 weeks ago and it helped a lot.

Hello! I've been looking for a September support group. My surgery date is September 12. I am dealing with a range of emotions (excitement to fear). Could definitely benefit from a support group!

RSM I'm 60 and had my sleeve surgery 8/31/17. My main goal was to get off my meds for diabetes and cholesterol. Upon being discharged from the hospital all four of my diabetes meds were discontinued. Pre surgery my glucose was 200-210. Now its 89-106. It looks like I might be able to reverse my diabetes. Time will tell. Good luck on your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
