Hey guys, so I have been overweight ever since I can remember, I barely heared last year of the existence of all these surgeries that can change morbid obesity patients.. I went to a weight loss doctor in Texas and begun my procedure and had to quit half ways.. due to financial stress. it's so frustrating being this way, I'm facing so much depression due to my weight I feel like a human mistake sometimes, I have no money nor good credit to get my surgery, I definitely do not want to post a gofundme page in my Facebook page to have everyone make fun of me... I do not feel good about myself , dieting and excersizing has lead me to loose 10 pounds all year it's ridiculous how bad my metabolism works... I Guess my question is there an charity or somewhere private that a obese person like myself can get a sponser or someone to help.. I seriously can't even sleep anymore if I not get help I am proboblyguess I my live long .. I feel like a big failure I'm ready to give up. I really need the duodenal surgery

Are you willing to go to Mexico? A bariatric surgery practice called Long Term VSG charges $2,999 for the sleeve. You can finance it into small monthly payments.

The vast majority of their patients are from the US.

I don't know your exact circumstances . . . are you without insurance? Do you qualify for Medicaid?

Please don't give up . . . even if you have to save for a long time, eventually perhaps you'll be able to afford it?

Sorry . .. best of luck.

I have tried two different types of insurance and haven't been able to get covered .. I'm not sick like with ulsers or diabetes or hypertension so I'm not eligible yet my health problems re not enough to approve me for that surgery .. I am trying to save but I'm just a regular person with a regular income and was just curious enough for programs out here.. it's a shame they can't take morbid obesity as a life or death situation

If your BMI is over a certain percentage you should qualify. That's how it was with my insurance through my employer.

Yep...I see the original poster is 5'8" and weighs 400+ pounds.

If she's insured by a policy with no bariatic surgery exclusion clause, she should qualify for weight loss surgery without any illnesses or comorbid conditions since she's instantly considered super morbidly obese at that weight.

If your insurance company doesn't have bariatric coverage, they won't cover bariatric surgery under any circumstances. This is known as a bariatric surgery exclusion.

Since your insurance has no bariatric coverage, and you don't have the money or financing to pay cash, your best bet is to find another job with insurance that will pay for weight loss surgery.

Again, good luck to you. :)

Some companies just don't cover bariatrics. It's too bad if yours is that way.

Going to Mexico is not as crazy as it sounds. I went myself and had a good experience.

Sometimes challenges are put in front of us so we can become stronger through the effort of overcoming them.

Examine your work, is there a way to earn more? Overtime? 2nd job?

Do you have assets you could sell?

Get a credit card?

Cut your budget to the bare essentials?

Borrow from friends or family?

Call a couple of the big hospitals in your area; whoever does the most bariatric procedures. I know at the hospital I was going to, some patients qualified to be part of their research or clinical trials. I had insurance so I didn't go that route but I would have considered it if I hadn't been covered. I know people in AZ who are on state sponsored insurance (for low incomes) get covered for WLS. It surprised me but I know 3 people now who've gone that route. If neither of those work out, the enrollment period for insurance is coming up again in the fall and you may be able to switch to another plan.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
