Mashed potatoes are my friend but rice is my enemy

Recommended Posts

I've recently just started eating mashed potatoes with a little gravy and I hold it well with no problems but the slightest taste of rice will have me on vomit alert!!!! Some are vice versa it's crazy

Can we eat rice and Pasta? ??? I was told to stay away from these two foods. But of course it probably depends on your Dr. orders.

I was told to stay away from Pasta and stay away from red meat for a year....but I wanted to try rice just to see and it's a mistake I've made a few times

I love me some Pasta. The thought of never being able to eat it again makes me sad. But just like anything else, I'll get over it. I can do without rice. At 3 mos post op I will be able to introduce a wider selection of red meats. I can eat ham and canadian bacon, turkey, and various fish.

Pasta and rice I can go without. But I love potatoes. I actually ate some the other day after having dinner walked past them and took a scoop and no I wasn't hungry. Oh my stomach hurt so bad. There wasn't room for it. Why did I do it. I knew better. I will try to keep this memory of bad decisions for next time.

Just to be clear, I've had all of one spoonful of white mashed potatoes, and literally one noodle (made hamburger helper for the kids and picked out ground beef for me and a noodle fell in. Tasted like paste!).

I did eat a full serving (4-6oz?) of sweet potatoes while on vacation.. yum! I think they'll be my new splurge. Cake? No. Ice cream? No. Sweet potatoes? YES!! Lol.

Kids might be disappointed when my birthday rolls around..

I just ate crab legs for first time since surgery and I had no problems whatsoever and that made me happy because I can do without the meats so I'm able to eat seafood and that works for me....and eggs taste nasty to me now and I hate that because I used to love them

I feel your pain and I've been there myself and the best thing to do is walk until it moves down because once that stomach starts hurting and you sit down Boy oh Boy

I'm able to do a milkshake and I'm lactose so it helps me out... can't finish it but it's all good for me and I learned we all have do different things because when I tried to taste a Wendy's chili I was done

I used to eat eggs every morning and now it just makes me sick. Sad really. I'm always at a loss for what to eat for Breakfast now. I usually just do a yogurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
