I have done better today, but the liquid diet is really hard. ElleMay, have you found that the initial liquid diet with the band is easier that the preop diet, since you get full more quickly. Thanks for the info on picking up the baby. That has been one of my biggest concerns. I have family willing to help, but I love hold my boys. Even my 8 year old still climbs up in my lap.

MsCas3, Don't beat yourself up about the preop diet. If you will notice, I have had trouble with mine too. After all, if we could stay on liquid diets well, then we wouldn't be getting banded. Best of luck to you. My banding is on the 24th. Keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thanks and good luck to you too! I'm drinking tea now and did my shopping for tomorrow liquids. I will have lunch with a friend tomorrow and will eat smarter. Let us know what we are in for after the 24th. I am six days behnd you. Thanks again and wish you well and keep me posted!

I wish you much success. I am going to band on Oct 30th also. I am really looking forward to it. I know what you mean about the pre-op diet but I am trying my best. It's not easy but I am taking one day at a time.

Let me know how everything goes. Let's keep in touch.

Absolutely, after the op is a lot easier because you are tender and can't eat too much too quickly. I was only on the liquids for 3 days after op. Then went to thin mushies/ homemade Soups. They too are easier because they taste better.

Today I feel sick:sick, my own fault. I was feeling hungry and felt that I could eat anything so last night I had a binge. Bad choice. I'm paying for it today. I will be more sensible from now on and eat only a cup of food instead of pushing the boundaries and making myself ill. Live and learn.

After all, if we could stay on liquid diets well, then we wouldn't be getting banded.

Here, here! My thoughts exactly.

I have a friend who went on one of the liquid diets for 6 weeks. Was thin but wanted to be thinner. She couldn't understand why I didn't just do what she did. Well 6 weeks would get rid of 10% of my problem. I'd have to be on them for a year and who can really face that!

I did good on the liquid diet today. I have found that so much of it for me is emotional. Tonight, it was time for my supper shake and I wanted some food so bad I could scream. My husband was taking my son to boyscouts and I fully intended to eat some food while they were gone. I reminded myself that I did not want to repeat yesterday. I made a deal with myself. I told myself that I would drink my shake first and that after I drank my shake, if I just had to eat something then I would. I drank the shake and I was so full I didn't want anything to eat. I think it is all about making up our minds. That sure is harder than it sounds, but we can all do it. I am so excited to have support here!! My husband is soooo supportive, but he has never been 100 pounds overweight and really doesn't understand the emotions involved. BTW I rewarded myself tonight by going to Walmart and getting the things I need for surgery!!!!! One week from tomorrow!!! I can't wait

Well done for staying on track today. I can certainly relate to the emotional eating part as I'm sure many here can. If we could get that right who needs the band!

Have a great day again tomorrow. If you feel like eating come and chat to someone, go outside for a walk anything to get your mind off it.

I just had my surgery yesterday and I am feeling pretty good. Just a little pain. I didn't get all this info on the exercise. I was told I could go back to work after two weeks and not to do any heavy lifting, pushing or pulling for about a month. Just use commom sense. You wouldn't want to do anything to hurt youself. Good luck on your surgery.

Let me get yalls opinion here. I am on my 9th day of my preop diet. I have done well except for a binge the evening of day 6. I ate 2 corn dogs. I really want to do well on the preop diet to shrink my liver, etc. Here's the deal. I LOVE CHINESE FOOD!!!! I really want to have one last meal of chinese food. I understand that with my band there is a chance that I will not be able to tolerate rice. How much damage would I do to go eat chinese food tonight?? Will it add taht much fat to my liver, or do I need to just "put on my big girl panties" and follow the diet like I am supposed to. What do yall think????

I was just banded on Oct 16th with Dr. Oh in federal Way, my surgeon has me on a 5lb maximum lifting restriction, and that is supposed to last for 2 mos. I guess it just depends on the Doctor.

I did pretty well on the pre-op plan, although I did have a few 'real food' items. I got pretty weak a couple times and knew I needed more than just the powdered mix w/water, so I actually ate part of a scrambled egg, a couple pieces of cheese and some grilled chicken (over the course of the six days...not all at the same time).

After surgery I asked the Dr and his assistant how my liver was and they said it was fine. I'm glad I didn't push the 'cheating' too far, but I sure knew my body needed it at the times I did it.

I'm on day three since the surgery and am awake at 3 a.m. with a little touch of nausea for the first time. I think I need to get more fluids in me - I'm supposed to have 64 oz and even though they said that might not be possible, I think I only took in about 40 yesterday. So I'm sipping Water and posting on here until I can get back to sleep. :notagree

Good luck to all of you/us! This is truly an adventure for anyone who undertakes it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
