does anyone ever think that depression will hit after surgery ? instead of being happy about the beginning of a new life for some reason that crosses my mind first. unless it's fear of thinking that you can actually be happy and that's okay. thoughts anyone?

i'm supposed to be getting my surgery in september. i am very excited but for some reason i feel like the days that go by is surreal. i definitely am thinking too much!! i can't be the only one ...

You and I have such similar thoughts that its actually really good to know I'm not the only one. I started this process in early 2016 and quit because of this exact fear. I jumped back in and had to start from the beginning early 2017 and with the process of serious soul searching I have found how deep my mental addiction is to food and the void I fill with food. It's Absolutley a mind game and being in your head to much. I found that we are capable of changing this cycle. Each time I wanted to eat because of any emotion I replaced it with a good playlist and hit the trail walking. I'm not delusional and realize it's still going to b a struggle but I also know i have other avenues to fill that void. You and I are much stronger than we think and much stronger than this addiction. .

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
