My gastric bypass is august 21st, and I'm so nervous! I think it's mainly the anesthesia.. any advice?

yes... go look up the statistics on the safety of modern day anesthesia. you will quickly forget about it altogether. it is, by far, the last thing you should be thinking/worrying about.

If you've not had surgery before...here's the thing. You'll be brought into the room. They'll give you something to relax you through your IV or through an oxygen mask...before you realize it, you'll wake up and it's over. You won't feel anything, so if that's part of your concern, let go of that. I've had a bunch of surgeries...don't feel anything.

If you're nervous about nausea after, know that they give you something. Some put a patch behind your ear, and some give you medication in your IV...some do both. I had both. It easily remedied the issue. Don't be afraid to ask for something if you're not feeling well when you wake up. They anticipate it, and are used to people coming out of anesthesia. It's going to be okay. ((big hugs)) You've got this.

I always wear my "happy toes" bright neon orange toenail polish. I ask them to play Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb at "11" just in case their amps go up to 11! ;) And I tell 'em to hit the fentanyl and the grinning face of my surgeon and OR nurse are the last things I see as I go on the most AH-mayyyyzing ride into lalaland. Good luck and congrats!!!

I had my surgery on Friday and I was pleasantly surprised. First, they drew blood and then had me wipe down and change. Then they started the IV and fluids. I was OK and didn't ask for anything. Then the nurse said she'd give me two meds, one for my memory/anxiety and the other I don't remember. I remember about 2 seconds after the 1st medication, even though hubby said I was awake and talking. Apparently the 2nd medication causes certain body parts to itch and told him "my coochie itches so bad!" to which the nurse replies "oops, I forgot to tell you about that". Lol.
Next thing I remember, I woke in recovery. No incision pain, just a stiff neck and sore shoulder from some shot they gave me.

Much less stress than anticipated. I've read some have you awake as you transfer to the or, but if you're anxious at anytime, speak up.

Be sure to hydrate very well the day before! And best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
