Hi :) I have my surgery next week- super excited!

I know on jumping ahead but I don't hear a lot of you taking about extra skin!?! Is this an issue for any of you?? I don't want to sound vain but i am sooooo nervous about this aspect of major weight loss.

It happens.. if you have less than 80lbs to lose and are under 40, you'll likely be ok. Otherwise, you'll probably want to start saving for a nip or tuck in a few years.

I'm only halfway to goal (have lost 74lbs), and I can tell there will be significant skin.

Hard to say. Some people end up with so much excess skin they need it surgically removed. Others like me are very lucky & virtually no excess skin. I'm nearly three years post surgery & have had no problems in this area at all. Solve what you can solve when you can solve it. Don't sweat it yet. Good luck to you!

It depends, I am almost halfway to my goal weight and I can tell there won't be any loose skin. However, I am taking measures to help. I use the Jergens tightening lotion, drink way more Water than recommended, don't tan (Salon or outside) and I weight lift. There are a few factors that will determine excess skin, your starting weight, and your age. I also take collagen supplements.

I lost 64 lbs seven months post and I have loss skin on arms and of course belly. But what's worse is the sagging boobs. Nothing you can do. It will happen but of course I started saving for lifts!!

I always say extra skin is way better than extra fat. Worry about it later. Depending on your age and body type, it might not even be that bad.

I'm with you. It's a relatively trivial (and vain) thing to worry about, but loose skin was the #1 reason I wouldn't even consider WLS for the past few years. I finally realized that my health was just more important and I'll deal with it the best I can if/when it happens. I work in healthcare and know quite a few people who have gone through this surgery. Some look great! Others look like they're melting with all the saggy skin. But the ones who haven't had issues all say they made sure to get their Protein in. I keep hearing that the #1 cause of saggy skin is lack of protein. Even the nurses at the bariatric center for excellence (where I'm a patient) who have had WLS told us the same thing in our pre-op class: protein, protein, PROTEIN! They say the #2 priority is hydration, #3 exercise. While I realize everyone will be different, I'm planning on taking their advice. I just hope I'll be able to get in the protein I need to post-op! How's that going for you so far?

I am a Nerium Brand Partner and we sell a product called Firm. I had surgery July 24 and so far so good! I am concerned about loose skin. I have used the Firm on everything including my chin! I will keep you posted on how the Firm is working on all of my loose skin! I do feel that once we can exercise and stuff, the muscle will rebuild a bit! Good luck to you!

Ready4theday- it's been hard getting Protein in. I'm on day five and have barely been able to finish one shake a day (30 grams in each- premiere protein) but today I've already had 5 ounces.... Soooo maybe it's going to go down easier from here on out.

Thanks for sharing that protein in key for sagging skin. I didn't know that. I'm always curious why protein is soooo important.

When is your surgery!? Good luck !!!!

ssrainey.nerium.com is how to buy it. I have used it for a few months prior to the surgery, as well! I have used it on my neck and chin area and noticed that it has worked so far! With the amount of weight lost prior to surgery, 75 #, I don't have a ton of loose skin. The website has a place for before and after photos. Check it out!

Oh I hope you can start to get more of your shakes down today! My surgeon reccomends using the Protein Powder (vs. pre-made shakes) so you can contol the amount of liquid added. That way, you can get the Protein you need even if it's really concentrated (due to less liquid). My surgery is Aug. 24th and I'm having R-n-Y GB. The protein is so important because it's what helps you heal - it provides the nutrients you need for tissues, skin, nails and hair. Biotin is also a huge help!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
