What is the average amount of carbs to have post op?

Recommended Posts

I'm out 6 weeks and was just wondering if anybody knows how many carbs per day is ok? And sugars too.

Thanks!

Depends on your plan.

Less than 20 (net.. which means subtract the fiber) is full ketosis.. using fat as energy instead of sugar.

20-50 might still be ketosis, definitely weight loss amount.

51-100 low carb likely not in ketosis borderline weight loss phase

Over 100 moderate carb, may or may not permit weight loss.

Personally I like 51-70g/day. Permits losses but not ketosis.

Those that have PCOS probably should stay under 40g (aim for ketosis). Diabetics should work closely with their team to find the right amount for them.

After RNY gastric bypass surgery, you may experience dumping syndrome by consuming fats and sugars. This condition last for about a year and then your intestines figure out something is wrong and evolve to permit your body to consume these again. The Weight Loss phase after surgery is extremely short. I transitioned to the Maintenance phase at around 7 months post-op. So if you want to get the most weight loss after surgery it is important to comply with the program directions in the weight loss phase.

My program guidelines limited me to no more than 5 grams of sugar per serving. Sugar includes sucrose (table sugar), fructose (honey), corn Syrup, high fructose corn syrup, cane juice, cane juice, brown sugar, molasses.

Low calorie natural sweeteners such as Stevia are O.K. So are artificial sweeteners such as Splenda.

I've found 30-50 net carbs a day to work for me. Lower and I feel weak. Higher and I stall weight loss.

What is the reason for those with PCOS to stay under 40g of carbs? I'm very interested!

Frequently people with PCOS are insulin resistant so cutting carbs drastically can be very helpful.

Here are 2 quick websites that talk about insulin resistance.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
