I know this might sound awful. I had my gastric bypass on 08-01-17 and though I can fill my pouch with Protein Shakes and fluids no problems, I am so tired of the same few flavors for over a week now, I'm going insane. I have marinara sauce I plan to bring to the dietician/dr appt on Friday which I want to use when I'm allowed to eat string cheese during my next phase. I couldn't stand it anymore, I had my husband bring me the cheese and sauce and I chewed and spit out out almost a whole cheese stick. I should warn that this process proved difficult because after chewing the cheese a bit it literally like melted in my mouth and I accidentally swallowed tiny particles in the process. Am I a horrible, crazy, nut job for doing this? Probably. I just wondered if it's gotten this bad with anyone else doing their best not to cheat at all.

Huh.. the chew and spit usually happens preop....

Use this as a warning about the strength of head hunger and how it impacts you. If this continues past the first month or so, you will want some counseling. No judgement coming from me.. this whole journey is TOUGH, and sometimes we may need a bit of help.

Once you move on to purees and soft foods, it should get much better :)

In the meantime, try making homemade broth.. that will give you a break from all the sweet shakes. liquid yogurt and kefir might be a nice change of pace too. Herbal tea comes in a ton of different flavors as well.

Chewing is a normal part of the digestive process. So many times after surgery when individuals report hunger, what they are really missing is chewing.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.

I found that protein shakes tasted terrible. You don't have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. I found that blending in a half a banana into my Protein Shake made it tolerable.

The weight loss phase is extremely short and then you will naturally transition into the maintenance phase. I transitioned at 7 months. So if you want to get the most out of this phase it is extremely important to follow the program guidelines.

I was allowed SF Jello as part of my fluids phase and SF popsicles. They helped with the boredom of Protein Shakes.

I found that putting in some Peppermint SF coffee Flavoring in the shakes helped change the taste. Also I used Hershey's SF chocolate Syrup to change the taste as well. Unfortunately, shakes are the best way to get in your Protein the first three months. There is no way you will be able to eat enough protein through food for at least 3-4 months.

Could I suggest webstaurantstore.com. I ordered sugar free davinci flavored Syrup to add to my Protein shakes(Its only $5-$6 per large bottle 750 ML. I got Chai, salted caramel, pumpkin pie, toasted marshmallow, and I also used Coconut milk instead of almond milk with chocolate protein for a "Mounds" flavored shake!! Like James said use this important time and take advantage of the weight loss phase. I can't wait!! I made an awesome PB&J shake with strawberry protein, PB2 dry Peanut Butter, and almond milk (I also add two stevia packets i like mine sweet) Hope this helps.

I also add a 1/2 scoop of powdered Bakers chocolate to my shakes: it's SF/NF & love the SF Davinci flavored syrups. I make homemade broths & Soups. I'm on a Tomato Florentine kick bc you can have it hot or cold. It helps that I'm also a chef so I know the how/what of ingredients. My nutritionist said the liquids all count so this helps me & w chopped spinach & other veggies I get that chew sensation in, which is something I need. I make a Chinese wor wonton Soup deconstructed & it's a lifesaver. I do the SF jellos, puddings & popsicles, too. What I learned was to drink my warmed broth first, before anything else in the morning from my nutritionist. I tried broccoli flavored w parm cheese, but it's too much for me presently.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
