Is Gastric Sleeve so much worse than csection?

Recommended Posts

I have had two csection and most recent one in April. I am scheduled to have sleeve on September 8. My csection recovery was brutal, due to leaving the hospital the next day after surgery and recovering at home. I had gas pains, difficulty walking, weakness and the pain from my scar, nerves Constipation. Is getting sleeved that much worse? Been reading these side effects and post op posts and I am a bit petrified.

I too have had two C-sections and from what Ive heard they are worse than being sleeved. And in my opinion it was about the same if not easier to be sleeved. I had my last child in January 2016 and was sleeved in October 2016. I think with everything you listed as being painful during your C-section it's going to be about the exact same thing. The worst part of being sleeved for me was the gas pain and it only happened once for like 5 minutes and was gone. I don't know why they sent you home the next day after having a c-section. I've never heard of anyone doing that. That would suck!

Oh thanks so much for your response. That's comforting to hear. With regards to my last csection in April, I left the hospital because my insurance coverage ended on the last day in April when my daughter was born. My husband lost his job in April and so I had to have my section planned in April at 39 weeks. Coverage ended May 1. Wasn't sure if the insurance would still cover all 4 days because when I asked they told me they would only cover the day of the section, April 30. My biggest fear with the sleeve is needing more help than my section. With my section I was able to work from home three days on my laptop after surgery, the pain was insane but I forced myself on Motrin and powered through. I am worried with the sleeve I will need more time off. I am taking 4 days off wrk.

I've had 4 c sections and my sleeve was a walk in the park. First 24 hours aren't fun with the gas but walk walk walk. My csection recoveries were much longer and harder.

Thanks so much. Because I left the hospital the day after my section, this last section was brutal for me. I would have stayed all 4 days if my insurance didn't term on April 30/ May 1. I am glad to hear, I can at least expect something similar to my sections. Thanks so much for your response.

Oh also i had hypertensive disorder of pregnancy. Wasn't on meds but they were monitoring my bp. That's why they moved my csection which was planned for a week later than my actual section date. Question though...do you think I need more time off work? If I work from home? I saw that you need 2 weeks minimum but surely I would think less if I work from home on my computer. I am getting some help with the kids. I should be fine right? I will ask my doctor. Scheduled for pre op August 24.

I work from home. I took a week off. It wasn't the pain that would have made it hard to work it's being very sleepy/low on energy. I never took anything more than tylonel for pain once I got home the next day from the hospital.

^^^ same here. I am self employed myself and was working on my laptop the day I got home. For comfy on the LazyBoy with my liquid to drink and I was good to go. The incisions are only about an inch long and my doctor use glue to shut them. I didn't want to become dependent on any painkillers so the only thing I took was the stuff to help with the gas. And I was just fine. I wouldn't worry about a single thing. If you can handle going home the following day after c-section you can handle anything! You got this girl!

Ahhh ok I see. Perhaps I should work a half day on the fifth day and go from there. Glad to know the pains not as bad. I just have to make sure my husband is home with me and the kids are at Grandmas. I will try and work half day the Friday after surgery.

Hello there, thank you for your answer. I am very happy to hear all these great responses. I will take things one day at a time, but I am glad to hear you were able to work from home when you returned. Also that you didn't need narcotic pain meds after a few days. I am glad about that. Again, Thanks for the encouragement, glad to hear you are doing so well. I am excited and can't wait to change my life. Looking forward to running in the park next summer with my boys and taking charge of my health. But most importantly, I don't want my daughter to see an unhealthy mom as her role model. By time she's one I will hopefully not only look more healthy but live a healthier life. My whole family is of normal weight except me. It's time for me to change my life. Yaaaay.

I had a c-section with my son 12 years ago and this surgery is not bad at all. You will be a little sore, but nothing compared to my c-section. Mines was done Laparoscopic so I have 5 or 6 small holes. I did wake up in recovery hurting right down in the middle and took pain meds and put a ice bag on there. All was well after that. I stuggle more because I use a walker and have bad knees but it was all good. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
