ansavala 0 Posted August 9, 2017 Has anyone tried Gatorade after surgery? I was worried about being diabetic and all of the sugar in Gatorade, but my sugars have been low and I need something else besides Water, propel & crystal light...
Lacecute 35 Posted August 9, 2017 (edited) You could do a tiny bit to get your sugars up. I would consult your doctor as sugar sometimes makes people dump. Also you could ask about glucose tablets or the glucose gel which goes on your gums Edited August 9, 2017 by Lacecute
PepperCat 30 Posted August 9, 2017 Oh man I want to know the answer to this. I'm pre op, but I am so nervous about my numbers jumping all over the place! ansavla-- if you don't mind me asking, how did you manage the highs and lows?
grindnfool 15 Posted August 9, 2017 I drank Powerade zero the first week after surgery and now drink Gatorade G2 from time to time. Should not be a problem to drink Gatorade but need to watch the caloric intake with fluids is my suggestion
Sullie06 1,013 Posted August 9, 2017 I'm not diabetic but I had a horrible stomach virus last week and could not keep anything down. I tried Gatorade per my surgeons suggestions to prevent dehydration and it went down fine but it does seem so sweet. It's not something I would drink regularly or a lot of. I'm pre op, but I am so nervous about my numbers jumping all over the place! ansavla-- if you don't mind me asking, how did you manage the highs and lows?Since I started my pre-op prep my sugars have been between 80 & 95. I was on 3 different diabetes meds and I have been able to quit taking them. Fortunately, I have not hit any highs or lows yet.

BrodieGL25 105 Posted August 9, 2017 I think the best thing to do is consult your doctor and nutritionist. I was severely diabetic and there were times that my sugar did drop because I was not put back on my trulicity and metformin right after surgery. In addition, you are eating much lower than what our bodies are used to. I was told to absolutely not touch the Gatorade because of the sugar and high caloric intake. It was a big No NO with my docs. But, if you feel like you are having sugar problems and need help, you definitely need to call the doc. I also got blood test very often to ensure that everything was on track and nothing needed to be added or taken away.
