Sugar Addicts, Carbohydrate Queens, and the Band

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new and beginning this journey. I have been excited about the lapband for a long time and have always wanted to go forward with surgery. Recently I have read that the band may not be for people with a "sweet tooth" and I ask myself, "How many people carry the weight I do, and not like sweets?" Are there any sugar addicts out there that can comment on their cravings pre and post band? The one thing I have going for me is I am a big chicken, so if I think it will mess up my surgery I won't do it.

Looking for real life experiences....

Jaeric

Hi Jaeric!

I was never a big sweet tooth person myself. I think those that are will have to take care of that issue before they will be successful at weightloss banded or not. My issue was not knowing when to stop. I was one of those who had two full plates at Thanksgiving (or any other "special" day which seem to come weekly).

The band has been great for me, but it does take work.

Good luck to you!

Bruce

I have a sweet tooth and since the band I've been able to recognize what cravings are and how to deal with them. If I go to the kitchen and browse for something sweet I know I'm not busy enough. That's the head hunger.

For me it's been realitively easy to deal with.

Good luck on your journey and let us know how you're doing.

Piffle is what I say to that.

I'm a bit of a sweet tooth and a carb queen and I'm past my goal weight now.

OK, so I wasnt a chocoholic or a lolly eater. But give me Cookies, muffins, cake, mmmmmmm those are my problem food. And the band makes it quite difficult to eat those in any quantity, they're the hardest food for me to eat.

But it wasnt that that would ruin my dieting efforts anyway, it was hunger and too much food in general, becuase most people that are obese and have a sweet tooth also eat way too much in general.

The band takes work. I wanted to curb my sweet tooth. I knew I needed a diet lower in carbs (although I have NOT given up carbs, I eat bread and cereals on a daily basis, but its no longer 90% of my diet) so I just did it. Its up to you.

I still indulge my sweet tooth. Why not? There's everyday foods and sometimes foods as I explain to the kids and there's nothing wrong with having a treat now and then. But I no longer do it five times a day.

I find I have way less cravings. I'm so full from a decent meal that I dont get that niggly hmm what can I eat now feeling as often. And I truly believe running has evened out my appetite too.

I personally hate junk food. I rarely eat anything sweet, unless an occasion like a birthday and I have a small piece of cake. I dont like chips, or anything like that, its just not me. And yet.. im still FAT :o

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
