I am a stay at home mother, due to my husband working night. I am the one that shops and prepares meals 6 days out of the week. I was wondering if there were any single parents or parents that have had/are having surgery. How did you manage changing your diet when you have a family? How did you prepare before the surgery? I know my husband is totally on board with healthier eating, but I worried about how I will eat the first few weeks after the surgery.i have growing child, so i know I will have food in the house that will be tempted especially when I have to cook dinner for my husband and daughter. How did you guys handle situations like this? Thanks for your help

I'm learning all that right now.
Post op day 6 and I feel good but that means back to normal. I do all the shopping and meal prep for my family. Before surgery I stocked up on things I needed and things they could eat quick. Then yesterday was the first day out and got easy meal prep things for them that I could do.

Last 2 nights I have made them dinner with no problem. Just when they eat have some of your broth with them. You won't feel hungry but you will miss eating with them.. Its the mental hunger that's hard to deal with. When you can eat solids just make things you can all have. Its an adjustment but I have made them full on meals and it hasn't been that bad :). Plan ahead if you can!

I am only a week and a half out (from surgery), but I've been on a liquid diet for three and a half weeks. Before then, I cut out Desserts, alcohol, carbonated drinks, and cut down on carbohydrates in general. I also stocked up on Protein Shakes and Soups. My kids are 2 and 5, so I also got some chocolate Syrup for them. Here's why: momma's Protein shakes look like chocolate milk and they want it too! In the morning, I put my shake in a mug and they assume it's coffee (another thing I had to cut out). I make a lot of kid food that they love, but doesn't appeal too much to me. Burrito with only meat and cheese, spaghetti O's, chicken nuggets, the occasional lunchable. I do make real food, too. Recently, a lasagna. I get a lot of joy out of watching my kids eat, but the liquid diet does suck. Sometimes, my husband will supervise dinner so I don't have to be around it if I'm having a hard day.

So I can only play the "if this were me game." I hope you will humor me in this? You are the mama. As such, if your house is like mine, I am the officially declared "Boss of cheese and ketchup, " and what I say goes...in the kitchen. LOL. Everywhere else, well, um, not so much. So if it were me and I was having to purge myself of all things illegal and not WLS friendly (i.e. cutting the crap), then every other member of the family would be sharing in the wealth. We would all go on a healthy eating plan. If I had kids it would extend to them as well. Children don't need crap in the kitchen either. Why shouldn't they be trained to think of a few apple slices with almond or Peanut Butter on them as a treat? Why shouldn't they dig having a few frozen cherries as a treat rather than that ho Little Debbie's snack cakes? Why shouldn't they enjoy nuked cheese crisps rather than that tricky Chester Cheetos crunchy Snacks?

I think that by not buying the stuff in the first place, it will make life easier in the long run--and more successful fro your whole fam. You may be surprised at how eager the kiddos are to getting on board with how Mama eats now! And it's really encouraging that your DH is already supportive of a healthy eating change! Good luck girlie!!

I have kids and a husband be for dinner we all eat healthy. I make kids lunches and they do get chips or a treat sometimes. Also, we still have ice cream in the house for a treat for them. Everything in moderation is still good for them. I used to be SO tempted by ice cream and would tell myself, pre-surgery, that I was buying ice cream for their treat... Only to eat it myself.

Pre surgery I would eat Cookies and chips or whatever. I "had" to... I craved the stuff... I thought about those Oreos I would have when I was at work during the day!!

immediately after RNY on 6/26 this year, I lost all cravings. I do sometimes smell things they eat but still don't crave it and am not in the least bit tempted.

Min fact, I made chocolate chip cookies with my kids this weekend. They smelled and looked good. Not tempted what so ever.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
