Anyone else not able to drink for hours after eating soft or solid foods? I get sick and nauseous if I drink anything before that time period is up. In order to get my fluids in I find myself drinking a liter of Water in the morning before I eat. Then won't eat anything after about 3pm except a Protein Shake. I then finish off the night drinking water. I'm six weeks post op.

I have to wait a couple hours if I eat something dense. So next time I'm ready to eat, I drink a glass of Water, then wait about 5 minutes, then eat. The water leaves quick enough that it doesn't seem to affect my meal.

I'm able to drink pretty close up before I eat, as long as it's not too excessive.. But I need more time to drink after I eat. I've been advised a half hour- I usually need an hour or more.

It's been explained to me that when you drink shortly after a meal, you wash that Protein out of your sleeve and the "full" feeling goes away faster. So I really try to wait.

If what I eat isn't puréed consistency, I have to wait a minimum of two hours before I can drink. Something dense and it's closer to four or five hours. I have a bypass. Maybe that makes for more of a difference. I know that the opening to my intestines was narrowed as was from my esophagus to my stomach.

It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Be willing to experiment. After surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even Water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate Hot Drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good.

The Fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your Vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the Protein Shakes. It is the water component of the Soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and Decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.

It's more of a food staying in my stomach for so long that there is no room for fluids of any kind for hours.

Since you are only 6 weeks postop, it may simply be too early for "dense" foods. You still have swelling going on. If you stick with Soups and the like for a couple more weeks, you may notice a difference.

I was thinking about taking a step back to puréed phase for a couple of weeks then trying again.

Any opinions on drinking green tea all the time vs. drinking plain Water? Having a hard time with just plain water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
