Hi all,

I am best known by my nickname, Tinka. I am holding firm at 39 (will ultimately turn 40 on Feb29,2008) and I am married to the best guy ever. Totally athletic and fit but loves me exactly as I am and will be.

We have a wonderful son who is 12 and two dogs (labs). I work for a Fortune 50 company and travel the world for work and fun. We have a summer cabin where we spend alot of our time and to think about all the things I could do up there as a thinner me just motivates me more. I enjoy life and can not believe all the wonderful gifts that unfold to me daily - including the lap band.

I struggled telling my husband about my desire to have the band for 2 years. I finally told him on Sept 22 and was in Surgery Oct 8 - amazing.

I never cared much for exercise but have integrated it in my new life and I am actually having fun. Thought it was appropriate to attach a picture of me with food - here I am about 2 months ago. Actually, now that I see it, it may be the perfect sized taco for my new life!

I'm fairly new to this site and tell me just what is the tenacious tens? Is this for everyone banded in October? If so, count me in.

My name is Gina and I was banded on October 11th in Albany, Georgia. I am a parapro (teacher's aid) working with special needs children in South Georgia. Besides my wonderful husband of 25 years and my four sons (ages 13, 14, 16, & 23) all of my family live in Oregon.

In regards to pets, I have 4 dogs. A german shepherd, a boykin spaniel, a germador (1/2 german shepherd and 1/2 lab), and a golden retriever. They keep me as busy as my teenagers.

I'm Leslie, and I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm 37, married, and I have one child, Sammy. Sammy is 4 1/2 years old, and he was born with a severe brain malformation known as holoprosencephly (HPE). Basically, his brain didn't separate into left and right hemispheres, and as a result, he has profound mental retardation. His HPE was discovered during my 20-week routine ultrasound, and we were told that there was a high probability for stillbirth. We prepared for the worst, but hoped for the best.

As I said, Sammy is now 4 1/2 years old and has been quite a challenge for physicians because he is so medically complex. A medical diagnosis is what he "has", but it does not explain who he "is". We have come to learn that Sammy is a teacher, missionary, bridge builder, peacemaker, and life changer!

As a result of Sammy's life, I now spend my days as a full-time volunteer for Families for HoPE, Inc., a nonprofit organization I formed last year. Families for HoPE offers emotional support and education to families whose lives have been affected by an infant or child with HPE. If you want to learn more about Sammy or about Families for HoPE, please visit www. sammyyammy.com and Families for HoPE, Inc..

I'm excited to see so many RNs in our Tenacious Tens group. Sammy receives skilled nursing in our home, so I feel right at home in this group surrounded by so many nurses! And, I noticed that there are two individuals who work with special needs children . . . how cool is that?!scan0010.jpg

Hi,

I was banded Weds 10/31. I am a Mom of three (twins who are 14 and a 12 yo) and attorney, 43, living in a suburb of New Orleans.

I am active with my church and bible studies, and have great friends. I was divorced 3.5 years ago...horrible!

My kids keep me busy, and young!!!!

I am with my gorgeous daughter in this pic, taken in May. I gained another 20 lbs before surgery, so this pic doesn't show me at the heaviest.

Hey Tenacious Tens-

I believe in you all so much, and I watch your progress on your tickers and your messages.

I searched out this post because in it we had the "SPARK and FIRE"!

We talked about what we knew we were going to accomplish and we were ready to make it happen.

I just wanted to remind us all of how far we have come. Look at those pictures!!!!

ABC Amy- if you are reading this- don't leave us.

Also I found this excellent website that I love it helps track calories, exercise, and it will make a meal plan for you to help you reach your goals,

and the best part is it is FREE! No strings attached. Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople

I started to use it and I have lost another 3 pounds. It is AWESOME! If you decide to go- look me up my user name is: acdane...

we can be buddies there too. Hope to see you there.

Firstly - Congratulations - you'll virtually half way - that must be wonderful.

I have finally managed to get on the treadmill - we've had awful hot weather here so the heat has been appalling and the break in the weather has been the incentive to finally get me going (well, that and a looming trip!)

I have been doing okay I guess as I've been taking it slowly, but today was the day! I also went shopping as my biggest clothes were too big, and my small clothes are too small so I had to have some "now" clothes to work in and generally err wear!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
