3 1/2 months in and going very rough[emoji31]

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My fiancé had the sleeve done May 2, 2017. She is having a very very hard time with recovery. In fact we think she may be worse off then her initial discharge. She has not been able to tolerate food of any kind. No shakes at all !!! This is almost 3 1/2 months later. I'm scared for her. Her main complaints are extreme lower abdomen pain, a lot of vomiting with nausea. She is now in recent weeks able to somewhat hydrate. All her scans we are told are normal. The surgical team has no coarse of definitive action other then a bypass. We have been in and out of the hospital weekly. No other surgeon will even talk to us.

PLEASE PLEASE!!! Can anyone give us any information that could help my sweetness recover?????

Thanks in advance.

You didn't mention what treatments they have tried. A PPI?

Is it gerd? Is it a stricture? Have they done a scope? Etc.

Room temp liquids, or popsicles, or broth? Clear Protein Drinks?

Sorry she is struggling so much.

Not much has been done other than IV fluids with Vitamins. Protonix and Pepcid seem to be all she receives. She has had endoscopes and CT scans. All we are told is normal. No apparent strictures. Could it be GERD or horrible reflux??? As for food she was taking in broth but hasn't been tolerating that well. She is keeping down some Water and coconut water. We were at the ER again last night. Blood work was normal. How can this be??? Imaging show nothing wrong. Labs show not much but lower than normal levels. That is treated with basic IV fluids. All I can say is she is describing pain that sounds excruciating. She is vomiting all the time. Every follow up appointment she was in the hospital. The surgeon did see her.

Thank you so very much. Bless you

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
