CourtneySmiles 0 Posted August 7, 2017 Hey all, I was sleeved last week in Cabo San Lucas. I'm doing great and incisions are healing well. I'm looking for advice as to surgeons who take patients solely for follow up care. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks!
YeaMe 246 Posted August 7, 2017 I hate to say this, but it will be almost impossible to find a surgeon for follow-up care. US surgeons will not take on a patient who had surgery in foreign countries (especially Mexico) no matter how good the operating surgeon was. They did not do the surgery so they don't want to step into the risk of something going wrong and being sued. Surgeon's make their money off of the surgery, not the follow-up care. I previously had the lap-band done in Mexico and could not find one single doctor - and I called about 60 - who would see me. I have now had the sleeve done, and I have only seen my surgeon twice after my surgery for my 2 week and then 1 month check up. After that, the follow-up care is done with the dietician. Your best bet would be to speak with your GP and ask for some recommendations.
GassyGurl 428 Posted August 7, 2017 Go to the ASMBS website. They have a search feature that allows you to search for surgeons who will accept other surgeons patients. It's worth a shot. In my area, both say they will, but I never specifically asked about Mexico. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
