Kaiser So Cal/ Inland Empire Pre Op HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Any folks that have gone through Kaiser (Corona area or Inland Empire) recently? My husband and I are attending the Options classes now, going into week 10 (August 2017). Our class is so confused on what is supposed to be happening. Are we supposed to have labs/tests etc? If so, who orders these and when do we complete them? This process has been so stressful and our entire class feels helpless and lost. I would love for someone who is a Kaiser patient (or even an employee) to give us an actual run down of what should be happening. Please! :O)

Hi,

I took options class in Fontana Kaiser, and finished the 12 week class in July, where are you taking your classes?

You are supposed to get your blood test, x-ray, ekg and the poop test for H. Pylori.

You should have your "go signal or the green light" to have all this done on your week 3 class, the orders are all gonna be on your file, if you log in online at kaiser you will see all the orders there, or you can go to any Kaiser, check in and they will print it for you.

All this test has to be done before you meet with the bariatric MD's, they are the ones that will release you after the class to meet up with the Bariatric Surgeon, you will get to meet the MD 2x one during class and one after you graduate :), you will also need to meet with the Therapist (Mental Health), to make sure that you are not just physically ready but mentally too.

Oh, and you have to attend atleast one support group, try attending the one in Kaiser Corona (the one in Kelogg Ave) they are cool very helpful and supportive group :)

Goodluck in your class.

Yup exactly what you said. I started options in June 2017 and graduated in August. I'm scheduled for vsg on 9/21 at kaiser Ontario with dr. Chin.

Hello! I was just referred to the Kaiser Options orientation, starting in a week. How long is the class? Process? I am in Los Angeles. Thanks!

Hi, The Orientation is like an hour and a half I think, its not the class yet, they will tell you what choices you have, if you are going to do the surgery, then you have to enroll to options class, (after the orientation) its a 12 week course and an hour and a half per class. Goodluck and keep us posted :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
