When is it ok to try a sweet?

Recommended Posts

I am getting sleeved on the 24th of August. I will be 4 months post op around Christmas. Is it ok to try a tiny tiny piece of dessert? Does anyone have any suggestions. It will be around the holidays and just want to know if it's to soon or not even to try?

My take as a 10 year post wls. Is just get to the starting line.
Don't overthink Xmas and the rest of the year....
Just relax and start and do the best you can for your first month. You can always re-evaluate items as they come up ... further down the road. You have to get on the road first ....
Don't worry about the exits on the road.
Just get prepared and get started and see where you go!!
Best of luck

August 24th is a day that will change your thoughts about food completely, as an addicted person being concerned about sweets in December right now is a sign that you may have to work a bit harder on your addiction than some.

Understand that this surgery is not a fix. It is a tool to help you keep your appetite under control. It doesn't help keep your head under control. Only you can do that.

By December you will be able to eat whatever you want. But should you? Your relationship with food is getting ready to make a huge but wonderful change.

My wish for you is that by December you will have stopped being concerned about what you can eat over the holidays and had built a relationship that lets you enjoy yourself and those around you more intimately.

Merry Christmas

Pam

Lol I would think. Have the surgery first. And don't worry about Christmas now.

To be honest. Your frame of mind changes. You might not even want it. I was in front of all deserts you can imagine yesturday and it did not appeal to me. It would have 6weeks ago!

You may not want it. But then again if you do it's okay to have a bite. Don't over indulge. Live like you would but healthier. We as humans can't deprive ourselves or this thing will not work. I'm 8 months post op. I got my first goal. I surpassed that goal actually. I'm 105 pounds down. I'm saying that because I have had a couple of sweets along the way. Good luck to you and your journey!

Yes. You'll be able to have a bite. Hell, maybe even TWO bites. I think it's crazy to say "if you're sad about not being able to eat delicious foods anymore then you're addicted and need to change your head."

food is a huge part of EVERY CULTURE IN THE WORLD. Eating tasty things is something human beings enjoy, and that's perfectly natural. The trick is moderation. If you want to try a bite or two of desert, I think that's absolutely going to be fine, and that should be something you do. However, if you find yourself doing more than a bite or two -- if you're suddenly binging, or if you're not eating enough healthy things before you start indulging in the sweets -- that's when it becomes a problem.

Eat your Protein first. Then your vegetables. Then, if you have room, have a bite or two of desert.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
