Going back to work Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my surgery is scheduled for August 25th. I have a desk job. How long was it before you all went back to work? Is it unrealistic for me to think that I can return after 10 days?

I had my surgery July 14th and 11 days later I went back to work on the 25th...I was not ready.

My energy level was so low, I was still sore...I knew I needed more time. So I went back to work on the 31st of July.

I returned to work after 2 weeks. Some people return to work after 1 and some literally take a whole month sometimes even 6 weeks off...

The way I look at it, everyone is different. I really didn't have the vacation time to take more than 2 weeks off anyways, but I really think 2 weeks was good enough.

I work in HR and sit at a desk mostly.

I think it was good for me to go back to work after 2 weeks because it helped me with trying to maintain work and getting back into the groove of everything and pushing myself a little rather than laying in bed all day at home. It also helps you adjust to learning to get your liquids in during work hours! Not the easiest but I'm adjusting!

I had surgery on 6/29 and went back after my post op appointment 7/10. I was ready for the most part but was tired by the end of the day

I had surgery 6/29/17 and I'm returning back to work on 8/14/17. I truly believe 6 weeks for me was needed. I'm a nurse and in no way could I have returned any sooner. last week was the 1st week I had no soreness or pain. But everyone different.

Wow! Mostly everyone went back to work fast! I had surgery 5/17 and I went back to work on 7/5. Thankfully my work offers paid short term disability. But I felt like I needed all that time.

I think you would be fine returning to work at 10 days since you have a desk job. I was out of work for 2 weeks - a total of 12 days with weekends. A week would have been too soon, I was still tired but by 10 days I was ready to return.

I took off two weeks. Then I worked from home 4 days that first week back. I was still exhausted and needed a nap by 3pm. I use mass transit and my commute takes an hour each way, so that added time also made for long days when i returned to my office. I think it was about week 4 before I was working through the day and didn't hit that 3 pm point of exhaustion.

I guess it depends on the person but had surgery August 2nd wed and by Monday I could have gone back to my desk job. Off until the 10th but that was plenty of time!! I think 10 days will be more than enough.

I'm going back tomorrow which will make 7 days post op. Yesterday felt tired but today much better. Keeping in mind my work is more cerebral than physical.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
