time release "detrol"

Recommended Posts

I had the lap band surgery in Aug. At that time, I was taking Detrol la, for a bladder problem. When I was release from the hospital I was told to find out if it came in liquid which it did. But could you tell me why I

could no longer take the little pills. I much rather take them than the liquid twice a day. I think that the nurse said it had to do with its being

'TIME RELEASE'

Originally lap-band patients were told to avoid bigger pills and capsules because they may not pass through the band. My Detrol LA comes in blue capsules, and I can still swallow them after 3 fills (2.5 cc's in 4 cc. band).

You're right about not being able to crush the time-release meds because the whole daily dose would be immediately bio-available.

A few months ago my surgeon said the new studies show that it is fine to take any meds whole unless larger than a shirt button. Next visit, ask again.

Well itr is very interesting, it is. If the pill is large enough that it does not go down to the lower stomach where the stomach acids are, it will not dissolve. I had this problem with a differant medication. I have heard of a case that they lady had all those "balls" inside the pill basically clogging up in her and she could not swallow anything. So i did my own experiment, take one of your pills open it and sit it in Water, you will see it will grow to be like 10 times the normal size but the medicine inside never disolves. Very interesting!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
