Bishbosh 42 Posted August 7, 2017 I'm 13 weeks post op and really struggling. So much so that I've been wondering if my surgery was a big mistake. I still struggle to eat. Most things make me nauseous, and I vomit more or less every other day. I don't feel hungry at all and I have no appetite or desire to eat food. I suffer with GERD symptoms. My weight has dropped dramatically, 3 stone in 13 weeks. I have fainted and my blood pressure is very low. I can't get the nutrients that I need. I went to a different country to have my surgery and I've spoken to my surgeon since who says everything I'm feeling is normal? I take my Iron tablets, Vitamins and I've had my B12 injection. I would like to start exercising but I'm not getting enough calories right now to even think about working out. Some days are good and I feel great. Some days are terrible to the point that I deeply regret my surgery 1 faithlove reacted to this
sjandj715 162 Posted August 7, 2017 First of all, I am so sorry you are feeling this way. This is not normal. I know everyone is different but for your surgeon to say this is normal is wrong. Where do you live? Maybe someone else can check you out to make sure everything is ok? I haven't gone through what you are going through just trying to help somehow! My best wishes for you 5 ProudGrammy, Bishbosh, niseys4 and 2 others reacted to this

I'd go to your GP and explain the situation, it doesn't sound like an emergency, but it's worrying enough that I think it's worth you being checked for a stricture or other anomaly. I'm having a sleeve to bypass revision next week because my stomach twisted in the middle, making it hourglass shaped. I've lost a lot more weight than expected, I've had increasingly bad reflux, and also struggled to eat much and puked regularly. I had a barium swallow test and an endoscopy to figure out the issue. It's likely you'll only get one or the other on the NHS, but it's worth getting checked out.Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk 2 Bishbosh and southernbellair79 reacted to this
Bishbosh 42 Posted August 10, 2017 Thank you both for your reply. I do live in the UK. I went to see my GP again today and I've been admitted to hospital for tests. Currently on a ward, on a drip, feeling pretty miserable but hoping for some solutions. Remaining positive :)p 7 Sosewsue61, ProudGrammy, linah and 4 others reacted to this

Bishbosh 42 Posted August 12, 2017 I have had a barium swallow. They found I have a hiatus hernia which is basically making everything 10x worse. The hiatus hernia is causing terrible acid reflux which in turn is irritating the muscles in my oesophagus causing them to contract not allowing the food through or causing me to vomit. I've been referred to a GI specialist in the U.K. and put back on a liquid diet. Hopefully they will operate to fix the hernia and my symptoms will improve. Still can't eat very much at this current time. But I knew something was wrong. 4 Malina, sjandj715, tataworld605 and 1 other reacted to this

I'm sorry your surgeon didn't discover the hiatal hernia during surgery or during a pre-op endoscopy (unless they didn't require it). I don't have one but from what I gather they're pretty common and just get fixed during the sleeve/bypass. Lame on your surgeons part.
Bishbosh 42 Posted August 12, 2017 I had an endoscopy but it wasn't spotted. Maybe because it's only very little. But you're correct whilst they were operating they should have spotted it and fixed it. Irony is, the lady I shared a room with at the clinic had a hiatus hernia and he fixed hers. Only saving grace is it can be fixed :) 5 ProudGrammy, sjandj715, linah and 2 others reacted to this

I hope you can get this resolved without too much more annoyance. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

In my opinion at least. Can they fix it soon? I used to have GERD and it was the worst.

What are you supposed to feel like 3 months out? I've had this since the day of my surgery so don't actually know how it's supposed to feel.
