I had wine after three months on a cruise - no issue. Keep in mind alcohol consumption will stop weight loss in its tracks. It also didnt take a whole lot to get loopy.

A reasonable doctor will tell you that you will need to live your life. Its not reasonable to assume you will never drink alchohol, eat something fried, eat cake, eat something bad for the rest of your life. If you are reasonable about it you can do those things once in a while.

I am 6 weeks out in 2 days and I can drink (my Dr. green lighted me) the brown stuff (bourbon, whiskey) and red wine, with zero issue. I had a sip of my wifes long island... no dice. Carbonation isn't your friend. But I had to test it to see how my stomach would react... Just gassy and burpy for hours after.

I am seven months post and have an occasional. Try to have low sugar drink. Never have carbonation again (sad) so no more beer. (Sad). But I realized (1) I don't really like drinking anymore and (2) it did nothing for me. I didn't get buzzed. Haha. So sticking to maybe a glass of wine if that. I feel too good to go back to the old ways. I'm down 64 lbs seven months out.

my nutritionist and surgeon both say no drinking until a year out because of empty calories. They suggest getting to your goal weight, but to each his own.

I'd recommend waiting 4-6 months so you can be confident in your ability to eat and drink Water before imbibing. Alcohol can hit us like a ton of bricks, so going into it well hydrated and with food in your system, you'll fare best.

Keep in mind our livers are under stress from the weight loss, another reason to wait as long as possible, and limit yourself to one drink in a night.

Even though things will seem different, going out and having a good time is the main thing.

Hi, I'm new to this app, and have a question that I'm kind of nervous about asking. I am currently on the pre-op liquid diet and am going to be sleeved in 11 days! I'm very excited and motivated to start my wls journey.
I just recently moved to Southern California because I'm starting school here in the fall. All of my friends are in Northern California and have no idea that I'm having this surgery. I was wondering at what point, post-op, were you able to have a drink? I am by no means an alcoholic, I'm just a 21 year old girl who loves to have nights-out with her friends.
Fortunately for me, all of my friends live 6+ hours away so I won't be seeing them as often. But when I do go to visit, it will be expected that we go out and a have a few drinks. It will be obvious if I go out and don't part-take. I am of course able to say no, but I'd rather not go out with them at all if I can't act how I normally would, if that makes sense.
Please no judgements [emoji18]

I am 8 weeks post op...I decided to give up beer (hard to do), wine (even harder) and just have a low or non calorie drink or shot...i had a dirty martini, stayed at home because I was afraid of how it would affect me, aside from alcohol hitting faster I was fine, one was more than enough.

My doctor told me no more alcohol period. It's going to be hard but you've already gotten this far. I'm not drinking anymore for myself, I've invested so much in this weight loss journey. I'll support and not judge any decision you make. Good luck.

You are committing to no alcohol your whole life time? Not even a sip? How far out are you?

After reading posts on here, there are huge differences in what the docs say. Mine said no carbonation ever. No alcohol for a year, better if never again. Full of empty calories, and said that many people become dependent bc of depression from having the surgery.

My doctor says no carbonation but when I asked about sparkling Water zero calories he said that was fine at the 3 month mark. The reason they say no carbonation ever is because they don't ever want us drinking coke and sugar filled drinks. But I confirmed zero calorie sparkle water is okay at 3 month mark if and big if my stomach likes it. My doctor also okay drinks at the 3 month mark but with caution as they are zero nutritional value. I loved wine before my surgery but I have not missed it so far.

Yes I'm committing to no more alcohol. I'm 3 weeks post op. I was only a social drinker anyways so it hasn't been hard for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
