Horrible bathroom problems

Recommended Posts

Ok guys- this maybe TMI.

I have surgery (RNY) on 7/31 and haven't been able to have a BM since the Saturday before. I'm on colace 2x daily, Miralax 1x daily and had baby food prunes last night. I was on a liquid diet 1 week prior to surgery, so I know that messed with my GI tract. And obviously now I'm mostly on liquids- 1 tablespoon of purée food the past 2 days. Should I contact my doctor? I don't want to bug them for something that is normal. Do you have any advice? Besides this, I feel great. Been off all Tylenol and gabapentin since last night too! Woohoo!!!

Yes, contact your doctor! There is never any harm in calling and a week without any BM is plenty long enough.

I did message my bariatrician to see what she has to say. I should hear from her tomorrow morning. I just don't want to go back to the hospital or have some humiliating treatment!

An enema should get things moving in short order.

When I felt the cramps of Constipation, I would gulp down a bit of Milk of Magnesia and that cured my issue. For some odd reason, cherries are now like a laxative for me, so I may munch on a couple of those if needed.

Have you heard back from your MD, if so, what was their possible solution?

A couple of low carb docs recommend taking a daily teaspoon of MOM just to keep things functioning and help with getting in enough magnesium. I know WLS is different, but I end up having to do this. Hope you feel the earth move soon!

Congratulations! Lol. After I had back surgery I didn't go for almost a month. I don't wish that pain on anyone! If you're off narcotics, things should continue to move since you had a BM. [emoji322][emoji323]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
