victoriak419 17 Posted August 6, 2017 Ok guys- this maybe TMI. I have surgery (RNY) on 7/31 and haven't been able to have a BM since the Saturday before. I'm on colace 2x daily, Miralax 1x daily and had baby food prunes last night. I was on a liquid diet 1 week prior to surgery, so I know that messed with my GI tract. And obviously now I'm mostly on liquids- 1 tablespoon of purée food the past 2 days. Should I contact my doctor? I don't want to bug them for something that is normal. Do you have any advice? Besides this, I feel great. Been off all Tylenol and gabapentin since last night too! Woohoo!!!
linziyo 6 Posted August 6, 2017 Yes, contact your doctor! There is never any harm in calling and a week without any BM is plenty long enough.
victoriak419 17 Posted August 6, 2017 I did message my bariatrician to see what she has to say. I should hear from her tomorrow morning. I just don't want to go back to the hospital or have some humiliating treatment!
Berry78 4,261 Posted August 7, 2017 An enema should get things moving in short order.
heycrystal2052 430 Posted August 7, 2017 When I felt the cramps of Constipation, I would gulp down a bit of Milk of Magnesia and that cured my issue. For some odd reason, cherries are now like a laxative for me, so I may munch on a couple of those if needed. Have you heard back from your MD, if so, what was their possible solution? 2 victoriak419 and FluffyChix reacted to this
victoriak419 17 Posted August 7, 2017 Doctor recommends to try magnesium citrate and keep on moving and drinking fluids. As long as I am passing gas, everything is good. 2 heycrystal2052 and FluffyChix reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted August 7, 2017 A couple of low carb docs recommend taking a daily teaspoon of MOM just to keep things functioning and help with getting in enough magnesium. I know WLS is different, but I end up having to do this. Hope you feel the earth move soon! 2 heycrystal2052 and victoriak419 reacted to this
victoriak419 17 Posted August 7, 2017 Great news everyone! I had a BM! The first in almost 10 days. Now I am confident my bowels are still in working condition lol 2 Berry78 and Charlie75 reacted to this
KateBruin 344 Posted August 8, 2017 Congratulations! Lol. After I had back surgery I didn't go for almost a month. I don't wish that pain on anyone! If you're off narcotics, things should continue to move since you had a BM. [emoji322][emoji323]
