I have seen people share their weight loss numbers and I'm trying to figure out where people are from. I saw someone post they were in say the 220's now wearing a size 14/16. My sleeve was done 6/28 and I've lost around 20lbs and now weigh 220lbs and just got back into my size 22W.

Are these folks in the US or another country were the sizing is differnt?

Good question! I'm preop at 194 and I wear a 14/16. I'm sure height and build have something to do with it. I'm 5'2 but have a 44 inch waist.

I think it depends on where someone carries the weight on their body and their height. I went from 289 wearing almost 24/26 to 209 wearing 16/18 and I'm 5' 5 1/2.

I am at 200 lbs. now, and I fit comfortably in all of the 16's I had saved. I am round in the middle, so my issue is always really big pant legs.

Clothing sizes are totally arbitrary. They're aren't standardized or uniform, so a size 6 from one brand may run much larger or smaller than a size 6 from another brand/maker.

Most of the respondents in that other clothes size thread are in the U.S. In other countries, sizing appears in larger numbers (e.g. women's size 29 jeans in Europe translates to size 8 in the U.S.).

I am in the U.S., 5'1 tall, a 22 BMI (118 to 120 pounds), and wear a size 4. Immediately before surgery I was a 41 BMI (218 pounds) and wore a size 20.

Also, vanity sizing prevails here in the U.S. Clothing sizes have actually gotten larger over the decades to accommodate the obesity epidemic. For instance, the modern day size 2 would have been a size 8 in the 1950s and 1960s. Today's size 10 would have been a size 14 in the 1960s.

I agree sizing has no standards these days, and back in the 60's I wore 13/14 and weighed 130-135 and thought I was fat. Sewing patterns usually go by measurements and are a bit more accurate - right now in vintage sewing patterns I would be wearing size 46 based on the bust and in stores plus size 22 and I am 5'2" 221. Plus sizes are particularly inaccurate and most of them fit horribly at that. On plus size buttondown shirts the armholes are usually cut too low (forget tank tops they are the worst) and the upper bust too wide, and the bust point is in the wrong place as well. So like most fat people I buy knits. I look forward to the day I can sew garments in smaller sizes and shop off the sale rack and buy cute vintage clothes.

I'm currently 194lbs at 5'10". I'm currently wearing a M/L top (depending on brand, 12/14 in pants and a size 12 in dress.

I started at 301 pounds and wearing a 22 pant, 2XL tops and size 20/22 dress.

I also remember seeing somewhere that the size difference between sizes is larger in Plus than Straight sizes so it might take you longer to change sizes in plus. For example I wore a size 22 from about 270-300 pounds but once I hit a straight size 16, I've gone down much quicker.

I'm between 5'9" and 5'10", so at 317 I was still only around a size 24. By the time I hit the 220s, I was definitely a 14/16. Now, at 191-ish, I'm between a 10 and a 12 (so close to being outside of plus!!) but when it comes to pants I'm still probably a 12/14, due to excess belly skin (bleHHHH)

The numbers depend wildly on height!

It all has to do with you height and weight distribution. I am 5'7" 255lbs 40BMI and I'm very proportional, so I wear a size 16/18. My Goal is a size 6!!! I wanna be able to go shopping and find clothes that fit correctly!

I find different styles sometimes means different size. I started out 290 lbs size 24w, 3x and am now 190 and fit 18, and xlarge, went to buy nursing Uniform for work and was size large. I'm 5'5. It's just a blessing not to shop in the plus size section, even bras went from 48DD to 44DD and we won't even get into underwear sizes, which was a trial and error with sizes.

My starting weight was 468 and I'm 5'6". At that time I wore a 5 or 6X, depending on the cut and manufacturer. And tunics were a godsend! I hated wearing regular length tops because the didn't hide my pannus, which I've always been ashamed of. I am now down to 245 lbs and fit into a size 22. My bra size went from 48J to 38DDD. I've already bought jeans in smaller sizes from the Salvation Army in anticipation of the cooler months of NE Ohio. I am seriously looking forward to playing with my grandchildren in the snow!

I wish more people would share their measurements. I wear anywhere from an 8 to a 12 based on brand, cut and fabric. Sizes are completely abritrary. I mean Ted Baker has his own size chart, where a 10 is relabeled as a 4...

My measurements however are exact.

A lot of people love stretchy clothing. If a person is wearing stretchy plus sized clothes that they have owned for some time, they could easily be 2 sizes larger in clothes without give and not even know it. A lot people don't really seem to be into fashion or updating their wardrobes, when they post their starting sizes, I mostly ignore them.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
