How long until you are able to eat more after RNY?

Recommended Posts

I had a sleeve 5 1/2 years ago for repairing something and then had a revision to RNY on June 12 this year because of so much acid. I had both for some other reasons not for weight loss. I don't remember when I started eating a plate of food after my sleeve. I was wondering how long it takes after RNY to eat a plate full or a full meal. I am on regular food now and can have 6 oz. per meal, but can't get it in.

Since you objective is to not lose any more weight, your goals in having RNY gastric bypass is quite different than most of us. In my case I began at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. My surgeon provided very specific directions (a half day class).

After surgery your stomach is in a major heal mode. That will take several weeks. So pace yourself. The transition to solids can be difficult, especially meats. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is less important.

I don't think you can ever eat a plate again. I'm almost a yr out and eat less then a cup.

I am already on regular solid foods and can tolerate everything but chicken. That was the same way when I had the sleeve though. I couldn't eat chicken until over a year out with my sleeve. I can add bread, rice, Pasta, and tortillas this Saturday. I cannot get 6 oz a meal in but if I can only get in less than that, a couple hours later I can have a Protein snack. I pour 4 oz of cold brew Decaf over ice and pour a Premier Protein drink ovet that and tastes just like a Starbucks iced latte. Don't have a problem getting protein in at all.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
