Emotional breakdown

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, im almost 1 month post op, and i've been taking my food ok, but in this last week i started to feel depressed im losing weight but i dont see any diference, i look in the mirror and i see myself as always, im struggling with my emotions, i dont want to go to work anymore, i just dont have any friends that know they way im walking and i feel trapped, before surgery they were all, you gonna be excellent and stuff and now they have been like "i would love to talk but im a bit busy right now", i started at 335 pounds and now im at 306 right now but i feel im not losing enough.

Have anyone felt the same way?

I think most of us have gone through some emotional adjustments. Surgery itself is a big undertaking, and some folks get depressed as a side effect from the anesthesia. Losing weight is huge, too, and the whole process is stressful. Don't be too hard on yourself, and give yourself time to adjust to your new body and new way of life. It'll get better, I promise!

You lost 29 pounds in a month. Have you ever done that before? The effects of the surgery don't happen overnight! When you are over 300 pounds it takes a while for weight loss to be noticeable. There is no magic # of pounds you should lose each month. I lost 37 pounds the first month and 9 the second. Have someone help you take your measurements on a regular basis. Also estrogen is stored in fat and that can wreck havoc on your emotions. Hang in there! You can't fail unless you don't make your Water and Protein goals.

My friends basically ditched me out after surgery, before the surgery they were supportive, but now they dont even want to speak to me. In the other hand i dont have any friend that has had a bariatric surgery, so i dont have any support or anyone that understand what im going through.

Sometimes when we make serious changes in our lives, it causes others in our circle to reflect on themselves, and sometimes when they don't like what they find, they start to feel challenged by your change. Maybe they start thinking about their eating habits, etc. and then they get defensive. You are on a journey of recovery, you might lose some friends who are threatened by your personal growth, but reach out to people here and also in support groups where you live and make new friends, people who have walked in your shoes and know what it's like to struggle. You are doing so well, look at all of the positives you've gotten this last month and focus on what a healthy lifestyle will be like, you will rock this! And I don't know about you, but I have been the "fat friend" and the fat family member for my whole life. People don't know how to relate to you when you break out of that mold, so just give them time and go and create the life you want. If they are truly friends they will be back, and if they don't then you are better off without them, IMO. You deserve people in your life who want you to be happy and healthy. They are out there, and you can find them. Keep up the good work!

Hi Pakko,
I feel your pain. I also agree with Sandra. Please contact your surgeon. I know it sounds crazy, but they are there for you physically and emotionally as this journey involves body and mind changes. There are support groups associated with most medical organizations who provide this surgery. New friends are waiting to be made in those groups right in your community. Make the call to your doctor on Monday. They will take your concerns seriously and provide resources to help you. You are not alone (unless you do not follow up with your doctor).
Let us know how you are doing.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
