I'm frustrated too!!! I got told today that all of Augustan September is booked already!!! Itll be months before I get my surgery 😫😫😫. I am on a cancellation list but still... I wish there was another facility I could go to and get this done! I've passed the psych and ekg. Currently waiting on a ultrasound appointment on the 28th and that's only because I called since I still gotten a surgery date. According to the scheduler "they were so busy they forgot to call and get this scheduled". Say what?!?! I am ticked!!!! Last I heard only august was full, then because they "forgot" September is full too. I love kaiser but this sucks. I am going to see if there's another facility in the area that I can get my surgery at since I'm actually ready. I lost the weight they wanted me to lose too... I'm totally bummed and getting discouraged

The program I am in with Kaiser basically sets it up so the process takes about 6 months, initial orientation class, nutritionist, psychologist, nurse case managers, support group participation, pre-surgery weight loss goals, labs, more classes....so if you do everything they want you to and take the first available appt for each new step it takes about 5-6 months to get to surgery date. This is Kaiser in Northern California.

Oh boy, I gotta tell you. Mine has been/still is an up and down roller coaster!

Surgery consultation was January 4th, 2017. I then had to do 6 months of supervised weight loss with my doctor.

Then I finally got approved with insurance (the first time around...didn't have to appeal or resubmit.) in the beginning of May. The center called me and set up pre op testing for June 22nd. It then took 3 weeks for them to call me to let me FINALLY schedule a surgery date.

My pre op nutritional class is August 22nd and then my "surgery date" is September 7th. I say "surgery date" because at this point until I'm on that operating table...its not legit! lol. I just feel like this has been such a long drawn out process that I know will be worth it however, some days I feel like its not really a thing that is actually happening. I have heard of so many people getting their surgeries pushed back...blah blah.

I think that with my center its still "tentative" because when I called to get a work slip for my husbands work they stated that they wouldn't give me one until we came in for the August 22nd pre op class. This made me feel like that would be the "official deciding moment" depending on how I do with the nutritionist? I suppose. Cause, 2 weeks before surgery would be when we would get the note...hubby is worried he won't be able to get the time off because of their weird policies! He will be there cause he will just call in but he would prefer to do it the right way and not leave the guys hanging! :(

Appointment with the nutritionist, Nurse practitioner, and Surgeon. The next day my surgery was set for August 29,2017

My insurance required 6 mo dr monitored visits plus a whole list of visits from specialists to give me clearance. My first visit to the surgeon was feb 22 and I had my surgery almost exactly 3 months later on May 24th. I had already seen my pcp for unrelated checkups the three months prior to her referral for wls so I was ahead of the game without intending to be. I got my date for sirgery the same day I turned in my last visit to the pcp and less than 24 hours later, my insurance approved my surgery. I got surgery 1 1/2 weeks after my last pcp visit.

HW: 328 (02/09/17)

CW: 228 (100# gone!)

It's been 3 weeks since I got insurance approval, and I'm still waiting for a date from my surgeons office. The program manager tells me it will probably be the last week of September or the first week of October. It’s just frustrating. I can't think of a single other medical procedure that is scheduled this way. My husband keeps muttering "best health care system in the world" under his breath.

I started my journey with an informational and insurance check meeting in June of 2016. I was approved to start the process. I finally got approval and a surgery date of 9/13/17. So for me it was forever it seems.

I just got a call today to schedule my endoscopy. That was four weeks after they had called to originally let me know I needed one, so I am very worried it will be awhile before I get my surgery date after I get approved by insurance. They, of course, scheduled me for the EGD on the week I'm going to be out of town on vacation, and now they have to send it back to the surgery scheduler, so who knows how long it will be until I hear from them again. My final weigh-in is on Monday, so we will submit to insurance at the beginning of next week. I mean, I get that there are a lot of people who are in line at my surgeon's office, but I am ready to have my date set! A lot of my holiday plans depend on when my surgery occurs. Plus, I've been at this since January, and I am ready to be done! Sorry, just needed to vent. It hasn't been getting to me until this last month.

I started this process last May. I did everything that was required only to find out I have to do 6 months supervised diet/weight with a physician. This is why my surgery date is in December. But, and this is a big but, I won't be finished with my 6 months till the first part of November, my hospital team says that may not be enough time to get approved. I'm blaming my hospital for not telling me months ago about this, I could have been on the schedule in October. I'm trying to be positive, it will happen when it happens I guess.

I got the month on my first visit. It was such a relief rather than being in limbo.

I finally got my date just this morning. I have surgery Sept 19. Although it's been over 2 years since I started working on this, it's only been since May that I started working with this program. Before, I was seeing a different doctor, and then had a period where my insurance didn't cover it at all. My biggest worry was that if we couldn't get it done before the end of the year again, what if insurance next year doesn't cover it?

Someone else called it limbo, that period where you don't really know what and when. I've decided I really don't like limbo. I'm glad to be escaping limbo.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
