BecomingMeAgain 46 Posted August 3, 2017 Hey so I have a quick question I want to put this out there I'm wondering from the point of the first sit-down with the surgeon how long did it take before most of you got a date for surgery? And how far out is the surgery usually? Sent from my Pixel using BariatricPal mobile app
vsgdon 32 Posted August 3, 2017 6 months to a year on avg. Depends on surgeon, insurance, current health issues.
BecomingMeAgain 46 Posted August 3, 2017 So is that for the dietician and all that? Because my doctor is actually the one who put talked me into the surgery because I have A LOT of back problems, I'm only 32 and he says I have the back of an 80 year old and obviously the extra weight does not help. When he originally sent it to the insurance for approval they denied it and gave me a list of things to do such as the dietician for six months, a psych eval, blood work, and the informational classes.... I'm happy to say I've done it all other than my last weigh in with the dietician tomorrow morning and then I go back to my Dr next week so he can resubmit everything to the insuranceSent from my Pixel using BariatricPal mobile app
vsgdon 32 Posted August 4, 2017 Sounds like guide lines from your insurance. Some make you have a supervised diet and excercuse program before you will be considered. I contacted my insurance directly and got all the information as far as wls goes and what they covered. Mine was bmi index, family health history..... met with surgeon. Surgeon agreed I was a candidate. Labs, nutritionist, nurse, psych eval, 4 week class, pre op support meeting, follow up with surgeon..... then was given a date and some pre op appts and labs.
