Failures and possible DS revision

Recommended Posts

Those who say this is the easy way out is clueless. I've struggled just as much losing weight after surgery as I did before surgery. I can't lose weight no matter what my medical team and I try. I follow the diets suggestions from the doctors and dietitians. I get my fluids and my Vitamins.

My husband and I got into a fight and he called me a failure yesterday.

My doctor is suggesting a revision from my sleeve to the duodenal switch. That scares me and everyone around me says not to do it.

I don't want to go through another surgery and fail again.

I just want to cry but I am empty. I have no more to give right now. I am at a loss. I've tried it all.

were you a lower BMI before surgery? I've known a few people who were on the lower end of high bmi pre-op and they were only able to lose like 20 lbs total.
Either way what is your heart telling you to do?

My heart is breaking for you, you're not a failure. Your husband is not a kind man, I hope you find the self love and strength to let him know that that is not OK. You need to have strength and support at home. I hope love yourself enough to know that doing nothing is failure, you are attempting and have found the courage to have surgery.

Please be gentle with yourself. ❤️

Focus on your self . Some people around can say things out of fustration, perhaps if they have wittnessed your saddness but then seen you eating what you should not secretely. Alot of us have done this. So no judgment.

For me the first thing that helped me is taking responsibility, unless you have medical problems or underlyning issues eating at a deficit for a certain amount of time will equal some weightloss. So perhaps some quiet time to see whats really slipping through may help you, a therapist before considering another surgery, as if you do not know whats causing the problem now, another surgery may not ressolve the issue.

I hear the struggle. I have a long way to go 5 weeks in, and I already feel I will fail. But you can do this, you can turn this around, we are here for you.

If you want to list what you are eating/food and drink maybe someone can offer some help :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
