Anyone else get emotional before surgery during the liver reduction diet?

Recommended Posts

I will have my surgery in 11 days and I started the liver reduction diet a few days ago. I've noticed that I am becoming extremely emotional, crying randomly and starting to think about the what if situations... did anyone else experience this? I know this surgery is the best option for me and there is no way I'd ever consider backing out ... I just can't seem to control my feelings .. unfortunately boyfriend doesn't understand at all what I am going through and when I tried to talk to him about how I'm feeling, he just stayed silent (we live in two separate cities at the moment) ... has anyone else experienced these crazy emotions ?

Yes, tomorrow will be day 3 of 14 for me. I'm having gastric bypass on the 16th. I started crying while I was driving to the dollar general today. I can't stop thinking about food and I'm already tired of drinking chicken broth and Protein Shakes

Not even on it yet and I'm already emoional/dreading it. :( I won't start mine till August 24th and ...I can only imagine and am getting very anxious for it. I'm just ready for this to happen. All of this waiting...all of this...everything. Doesn't help us with anxiety as it is. haha! I mean, I'm positive and I'm still sure this is what I want to do but, my goodness - the process absolutely does not help. lol.

You are not alone. I'm going through similar things, emotional, hungry, food cravings, even imagining tastes & smells. We must comfort ourselves that it will over very soon. The food is an addiction, everything about it. We need it,but have to change our thinking about it. I've cooked all my life, have 5 sons&1 daughter, none obese but love my cooking.
Everything must change. No more cakes, pies, big casseroles, my famous this that. Grandma WON'T be baking all day anymore cause Grandma's trying to save her life. So I'm mentally having to fight myself here until Surgery now, in 5 days!
Best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
