Hi everyone, just wanted to share a current update of where I am. I had my gastric bypass surgery October 18th, 2016. The picture on the right was taken the day before surgery with my weight of 220 and only being 5'1. My BMI was 41.6 at only 22 years old. The picture on the left is from yesterday August 1st 2017 10 months post op. Along with being obese I was also having major health issues such as acid reflux and an internal hernia. I was so iffy on this surgery especially being as young as I am. With others telling me that surgery is just an excuse and a easy way out, well guess what, it's not. This process required me to learn discipline, Portion Control, exercise, drinking without eating, changing my Mental as well as my physical thought process. It took me 8 months on focusing on myself and my inner being, to prove to myself and my family that this is what I wanted for my life. It honestly has been the most amazing experience of my life and I wouldn't change it for the world. I do not regret my decision as I have more energy, I'm living a healthier lifestyle, eating proper portions. I have cut out all soda and processed food and have gone completely organic and make my own meals. It feels so wonderful to have my life back and to inspire and encourage others where I have been before. Thank you to this community when I was first considering the surgery for being a second opinion, a voice and ears when I needed them.

Congrats! You look amazing (: I can totally relate to this! I'm 26 but wanted this surgery years ago. My BMI is 40 and I've just had my first pre op shake. I'm so excited. I love how you've expressed what you've learned. This is exactly the benefits I want from this surgery. I want to lose weight, but I also want to learn control and discipline! That's where the change really lies in my opinion. You sound very healthy both inside and out (: congrats again

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
