Surgery with Dr. Mario Almanza

Recommended Posts

I had surgery at the end of February of 2017, with Dr. Mario Almanza, I have lost about 130 lbs since the surgery. I was 258 now I'm 125-130.

I have had severe problems eating or even drinking anything, I become nauseated after consuming a few bites of food. I can't even eat Soups without getting nauseous.

At first the weight loss was a gift, but now I'm literally skin and bones and my kids are scared to see me without my shirt on.

I dont know what to do, the doctor I went to in the United States for follow up care said that there was nothing wrong with me, no leak, infection, etc. but that it's possible the opening was smaller for me than normal.

I dont know what to do, I hate ever having done this surgery. Instead of going to a gym and losing the weight, I took the easy way out, and now am permanently scarred from this surgery.

Do do not get this surgery, it's completely irreversible and you will be forced to eat like a bird. I can't take more than 2 bites of a sandwich. Or eat more than 10-12 spoonfuls of Soup. It's a nightmare. And I've seriously at this point am so desperate I have contemplated suicide.

This has been the worst 2 years of my life, my wife died of ovarian cancer, left alone with 4 daughters, I gained a lot of weight and then this gastric sleeve surgery ruined my life. I look like a reptile.

Any suggestions as to how I can at least partially reverse this surgery?

Ohh wow!! No don't end your life please! I hate that you're dealing with this. It will get better as time goes on and your stomach will eventually be able to take a little more food. Can you drink Protein at all? If so, do that and go slow on what you can tolerate. Its a trial and error with eating after surgery. Its been a year and 5 months and I still have to be selective. I still eat small amounts because I'm still trying to lose. Please seek support groups and talk with a gastroenterologist. Keep us updated.

You can stretch your stomach back out! Just break the rules. Soda will stretch your stomach out, and eating when you drink. I agree with drinking more Protein too. I mean I definitely don't recommend stretching your stomach all the way back out, but there are rules you can break to make it happen so you're more comfortable

So much wrong here. First of all, you speak of WLS as the easy way out, yet you mention suicide. Please... (smh...)

Anyways, for the vast majority of us who need it, this surgery is NOT a mistake. You started your journey with a BMI of only 38. This is definitely on the borderline and it was your surgeon's responsibility to mention that this might not be appropriate surgery for someone like you. If there is any fault it is with the surgeon.

You are still in the "honeymoon phase" where you can't eat much and the weight falls off you. Since you had this surgery as a moderately obese person and have lost fast, you are already at or below goal. There are things you can do to slow your weight loss until your stomach (naturally) stretches. It will never get back to the size it was, but could stretch to be able twice the size it is now.

Drink your calories. There are liquids and slider foods (crackers, potato chips, others that turn into a "slurry" and go right through your pouch) that people use to "cheat" the sleeve. If you are truly unhappy that you are thin and healthy, you could do this.

I think the bigger issue here is that, you are a food addict like many of us, and have used food your whole life to deal with stress. The recent tragic events in your life have overwhelmed you and the fact that you can no longer turn to food is short circuiting your brain. Please see a professional and try to work out this issue- it is a big one! I feel for you because I am exactly the same position with my addiction. I'm working on it, but I realize it will take some time to overcome this life long struggle. I can do this- and so can you!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
