Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I am a week post op and feeling fine. Still have a good bit of gas, but according to my wife that is nothing new. My concern is that I do not feel as if I am banded at all. I can dammed near slam a 20 oz bottle of Water and if I don’t think about it I can eat as fast as I did pre band. I have not been hungry but seem to be eating all the time and drinking all the time. I have followed, to the letter, the post op diet. In a day I eat 2-3 slim-fasts, a few of the to go cups of SF pudding or SF Jell-O. A cup of Soup for lunch and a ½ - ¾ of a can of some kind of Soup for dinner. I also may get mashed up banana for a late night snack. As far as Water goes I generally have 2-3 of the Sam’s choice 20oz bottles and a few glasses of SF kool-aid through out the day.

BTW...I have no idea why the first few lines of all my posts are in bold

Hey Justin! I hear other people say the same thing as you. Makes sense really - once the postop swelling goes down you should be hungry like you were before since you have no restriction. That's how I expect to feel in a week myself. I guess all you can do is hang in there for the time being, until you get filled. Seems like this band thing is a slow jog and not a sprint!

There is not as much restriction in your band yet, as it hasn't been filled. Your swelling probably has decreased making you feel more "normal". I feel the same way. I have to force myself to slow down and take it easy because I am still healing and everything down there is still getting settled. I found that I have a lot of Protein with Water. I must get my 60 grams in or I am starvin' Marvin. Good luck and remember we are all in this together.

OK, weird........ first 4 days postop I thought "oh woe is me, will I ever want food again? Will I ever feel normal again? Will I ever get to EAT again?" and today on Day 5 I'm like "ooh, helloooooooooooo double cheeseburgers!"

Of course I'm still on liquids (full) but suddenly the surgical swelling went down (I assume) and food looked divine again. As they say on the yahoo group, "we're in bandster hell now" until we get a good fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
