Any January 2018 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else scheduled for January 2018? I have my surgery scheduled for January 11. I'm having to wait until next year because I had a stent put in back in December 2016. The anesthesiologist won't sign off until I have had the stent for at least a year and am able to come off of Plavix for the surgery.

  1. I'm around the same time. Originally scheduled in December, I asked to push it back due to vacation time.

Mine looks to be Jan 16 if everything goes well. Waiting to hear back from insurance. Hopefully the process will go fast. How long did it take you all from first consult to getting approval and surgery scheduled?

It didn't take long, less than a week, but I had already been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have had a heart attack. My insurance only required the psych consult and 1 meeting with dietitian - I did both of those on the same day.

I have Kaiser and I had to go through 12 week of classes before I could even get a consult with bariatric surgeon. I received my surgery date at my consult. If you do not have to take any classes, support group class or a psych evaluation then you are lucky. I thought that all of that was the standrd now to go through prior to be pproved for any bariatric surgey.

I think it all depends on what type of coverage is negotiated by your employer.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
