So what does everyone eat?

Our nutritionist said no fruit ever. Basically I don't expect to eat fruit until I am a healthy weight. Not that I don't love fruit, but to me now they are sugar bombs in my mind.

My Dr. said I can eat fruit, but limit what fruit and the amount eaten. If I do eat it, I'll eat a fruit that has a high Water content (Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Pineapple), but I'll do that several times a month and only in the morning. I agree with you in gist, you do have to worry about the sugars. I don't drink juice unless it is sugar free and most of the time, aspartame free.

This is what my NUT said also. I checked her list so I have the berries she suggested to eat today. Do you all eat bread? I'm kind of scared of it since nothing goes down easily. But my list said I can half of an english muffin.

I tried bread and it made incredibly sick and I am okay with crackers and tortillas. I could feel the bread trying to come back up, I only ate one slice but it made me sick for hours. My list tells me I can have a lot that I know I wouldn't be able to eat. My NUT said I can eat half an english muffin and two eggs now and I know for a fact that isn't possible. Just go off of what you feel you can or can't do.

Bread, no. Tortilla's, no. Well, I can't say no. If I do, I'll have it once a month. I feel both are a waste and offer no benefits what's so ever. I replaced a lot of "breads" w/ lettuce wraps and it seems to really work. I have noticed, they're now making Protein breads and tortillas, but you have to really read the nutrition labels, they're not all they appear to be.

Six weeks out and my nutritionist said NO bread or grains (or fruits). Right now my go-to veg is zucchini. I bought a spiralizer and I am like a kid with it. I swear everything tastes better if it's "spiral." Lightly sauteed spiral zucchini with shrimp and a small dab of basil pesto. I also seem to like tuna salad and egg salad but only if it is made with cottage cheese and not mayo or anything else. Go figure.

I'm 5 weeks post op and had them last night. So good and I could actually stand the taste. I had them with a bit of ranch dressing as that is low in carbs. What week are you?

Monday will be week 4

It's amazing all the different recmmendation from Nuts. I got soft fruit and veg at 3 weeks. No seeds (strawberries, raspberries). No bread, grains, nuts. No salads. After I hit my Protein goal I have a few cherries and or half peach. Low carbs. Still keeps me under 30 carbs a day.

LOVE Zoodles! Sauteed with chopped celery and a little bit of ground beef and marinara sauce with Protein Powder. Pecorino Romano on top. Yummers!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
