Can't get out of this stall!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm now 6 weeks post op vsg and I keep hitting stalls.

HW: 238

Day of vsg: 228

CW: 204

I lost 19 lbs in the first two weeks. After that, I hit a stall for about a week and a half. I then lost another 5 lbs (slowly) and have been in another stall for the last week. Did this happen to anyone else? How do you restart the weight loss?

I also feel like I can fit a lot more food when I eat. At first I was eating very small portions; now I'm able to eat a lot more at one sitting. Is it possible to stretch out the pouch already?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mallory

Hi! Try not to stress (I know, easier said than done). I would hit a wall every 6 weeks or so, but I think that's just your body going into starvation mode due to the low caloric intake. You'll get over it. As for your food - I'm 10 months post-op and at my 9 month check-up, I was told that I should be able to consume approximately one cup of food at each meal. I don't really adhere to that, as it's more or less than 1C depending on what I'm eating. I try to eat slowly and listen to my body to tell me when I'm full. That's more difficult as well, but you'll definitely know when you've overdone it. Have you been measuring your food at each meal? I've found that's the very best way to make sure you're keeping on track & not over-eating. Have you been exercising? I started going to the gym about 6-8 weeks post-op and started with light cardio and moved up to weights and cardio combined. I try to go about 3 times a week. Good luck and again, don't stress! Let your new small stomach work for you!

My surgery was May 24th and I went through the same thing for weeks. Trust me it will pass. I posted on here too...asking for help. Keep doing what you're doing and the scale will keep moving...maybe not as we expected, but it will keep going down and you will lose inches when it's not.

I'm almost 7 weeks and talked with my bariatric nurse coordinator today. She said I should still be eating about 2.5 ounces per meal 3 times daily plus 64 oz of Water. She encouraged me to measure everything and add extra Protein Powder as I can- I was concerned about some reactions to food I've been having. I know I've been eating too fast and not getting enough Fluid and some days not enough Protein. I'm happy with my weight loss- 28 lbs since the start. So I'm starting over making sure I follow the drs instructions to the t.

Your weight loss seems good I think- 37 lbs and we are about the same time out.

This is very helpful to know! Thank you for sharing! I was having trouble eating too fast as well and the food was getting stuck in my throat. Getting my protein in was very difficult as well, because I hated every protein drink/powder that I tried. I now drink Premier Protein clear. It is only 90 calories and 20g of protein. So that has helped a lot. I'm now going to focus on measuring my servings. I think that will make a difference.
Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
