Does your body adapt to the malnourish

Recommended Posts

Hello I am 9 years out from BPD-DS. I am wondering if the absorption is the same as when I had the surgery. Also when I eat anything or drink my stomach makes the gas sounds or gurgling sounds. What am I doing wrong or missing I have done pro biotics and watch my simple carbs nit even coffee if I lay on my side will sound like a tiger in my stomach.

Hi,

What my surgeons told me is the body fights its hardest to return to normal, but it can't bc it's been changed, permanently. Generally, the malabsorption does lessen somewhat after a few years and then usually reaches its set point.

Does your stomach give you any pain while it's gurgling? Do you have gas or diarrhea?

When is the the last time you did a course of Flagyl? May be time to sort things out.

I don't know about the absorption, but one of the nurses in my program said you can hear your stomach gurgling as food leaves the pouch because the small intestine was moved up to the front of your body. It used to be buried somewhere in the middle and the sound was more muffled.

I have no pain but a lot of gas and loose stool. I have never done Flagyl before what is it suppose to do? It makes noise all the time shortly after I eat.

I'm just 5 days post-op from Gastric Sleeve and my stomach makes the same type of noise only when I eat. I was told that this is normal. Did you say that you are 9yrs out and you never experience this before? Strange.

The sounds are probably normal. The gas and loose stools may be from the fat in your diet. You need fat, so you can experiment with how much and when you eat it, but don't cut it out completely.

The malabsorption is life-long. Hopefully you are still under your doc's care, getting your Vitamin levels checked regularly.

@tobiganymore Flagyl is kind of a reset. It helps with the good and bad bugs in your system. You're quite lucky you've never needed it. Many DSers get a SIBO every once in a while & need Flagyl to even things out. It's available by Rx from your doctor.

I know many DSsers who take it a couple of times a year just to keep things at an even keel. I try to remember to take it once a year to do that. But sometimes I haven't taken it for 3-4 years. Then when I find I'm having bathroom issues I remember I haven't taken it for a while. I take it for about 10-14 days and things get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
