I am so nervous. Strange how everyone asks you if you are excited- gee I am just having 2/3 of my stomach removed, I wouldn't say excited is the word but more like anxious and nervous. I guess they ask about being excited because they know that I will lose weight. I am 48 yrs old, 5'8" and weigh 283. I have always been heavy but I carry it well. I am looking forward to living a life as the "real" me. The person who wants to go zip lining but is too heavy, that loves amusement rides but is fearful the safety harness will not hold due to weight. The person that can board a plane and not stress over the seat belt not fitting or being placed in the middle seat. A person who can wear shorts and sleeveless shirts in public and not be embarrassed. The person who's knees are in agony because of so much weight. I'm excited to be that person, so maybe I am actually a little excited but I am the type that has to see it to believe it. I know I will be that person someday but the reality has not kicked in. I look forward to the journey I am about to take and would like to get to know others on that same journey.

I could have been reading what you wrote and thought that was about myself! About the only difference is I am about 4 inches shorter than you. When will you be having surgery?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
