Day 5 and I am suffering!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Tuesday. I left the hospital Friday morning. The reason they would not let me go was the lack of holding any liquids down. He let me go home with the hopes it would motivate me. It has not I am still struggling to drink Water or anything else. I currently am at 25 oz of water and like 3 oz of shake or something else. I have horrible pains. Its a combo of horrible gas(sorry) and acid reflux. These to things make me not want anything to drink. As far as broth and Jello goes, the minute it is in in come back. I have already talked to the doctor he says its normal to have acid reflux but nothing on how to get comfortable with this process. I am so regretting what I have done. He also created this indention where her pulled my stomach out of. Does anyone else have that?

I have the indentation too, just below the largest incision on my left side. I can also feel a lump the size of a small egg down below that scar. But fortunately I have not had any ill effects in the days after surgery. Hope things get better for you.

Hi Lorraine
We had surgery on the same day! I was discharged on Thursday evening and had issues in drinking too!

I am also struggling to finish my liquids. Finishing 300 ml (10oz) takes me a couple of hours. Im supp to drink my Protein milk 3 x 10 oz a day but past 2 days i managed only twice. With just small sips of water in between. A few days ago i took some yoghurt and broth and because of that i couldnt take my protein milk at night.
I have horrible gas too and really hope this is not a permanent thing. So far i do not have reflux. Are you drinking slowly and at small sips? I take very small sips to avoid further gas or reflux.

I dont have the indention that you are referring to. Let's hold on and I am sure things will get better slowly!

Hi I had RNY Gastric Bypass on July 27th. Just came home today due to low red blood levels I am hitting my liquid goals by constantly taking small sips of Water and herbal tea. I just drink and pee constantly. I also eat crushed ice. I don't have the indentation, but I am very swollen and gassy.

I've just posted something similar asking if anyone had any advice getting liquid down! The clear Water seems to be a big issue for me - it hits my stomach and it's not great! I am 2 weeks post op.

I really hope you start to feel better soon. I felt much better 1 week post op so not much further for you to get to that point. Just take it easy and do what you can.

Much love xxxx

One thing that helped me get liquids, was to get a jar of beef bullion cubes at Walmart. Just boil water and pour over the bullion cubes. It felt good to drink something warm in the morning and I quit drinking coffee, so I just pretend it's coffee.
About the heartburn, make sure you quit drinking or eating anything before bed, maybe 2 hours? Also my doc told me to take tums, it helps with
heart burn and you can get your Calcium that way.
My heart burn is worse at night, so I keep at bottle of Tums by my bedside. Sugarfree popcycles have about 2 ounces of liquid too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
