JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 7/10. So far doing well with exception of pulling the stitch in the muscle under the incision they took stomach out from so had an increase in pain from that. The only thing I might have done to cause that was lifting my dogs onto bed but they only weight ~15lbs and I was cleared to lift up to 25lbs at my 2 week visit. I did talk to my surgeon and it's just a matter or rest/time and I can use pain meds and try a muscle relaxer to see if it helps. I'm back at work so on my feet with that but backed off gym walking time as it makes the pain worse. So ready to be back at the gym!

I advanced to pureed foods today! I tried refried Beans which sat ok on my stomach but I couldn't tolerate more than a few bites- WOW! Finding a Protein source I liked was hard but after ordering numerous things I finally found some ones I liked (the Fruit Drinks on here and the nectar powder sample pack were key to me meeting goals).

Surgery day weight was 219, today at 3 weeks out I am 202! Clothes fitting bigger and wore some dress pants that I haven't worn in a year or so to work so slowly but surely getting there.

I was sleeved the 3rd. How much food are you getting in? I just got over the 3rd week stall. The dermabond on My incisions are almost all the way gone. I honestly feel great, for the most part. My doctor told me to stay out of the heat because I will dehydrate quickly and it is so hot here. So I've tried my exercise bike, but the large incision hurts when I do that. So hopefully that will heal up soon. There is a very large knot there, where they move my inside out of the way and it feels horrible to put pressure on. I am able to sleep on my stomach again and it is the best. I get down food pretty good. Not so much the shakes though. So I try to get in one a day, with a scoop of GENEPRO and benefiber mixed in.
My diet that the nutritionist gave me said that I should be getting in 3 meals, two Snacks. And the meals should be like 2-4 tbsp. Sometimes it is easy to get in those 4 tbsp. Depending on what I eat. For example, I just ate some tofu and it was super easy to get down. Other times, 2 tbsp of tuna is hard. And a boiled egg is tough too. It feels like the egg just stays in my throat.

I was sleeved 7/10 and I am on @ 2 week puréed diet. Soft scrambled eggs are the secret not boiled. Yogurt, cottage cheese, pea Soup and mashed cauliflower, potatoes, hummus ( plain). Steamed carrots and butternut squash. Tonight I tried re fried Beans. So far so good.

Sleeved July 10th. You know i feel fine and my incisions are healing perfectly. My hardest issue is feeling hungry and needing to eat something. I have gotten so bored of the puree stage and started to eat soft foods early, which i know i am not supposed to do. I just have to bare with this a little longer and let myself heal inside. I also have a lot of issues with the 2 oz i eat seeming to just sit in my esophagus. I don't throw it back up but it takes it longer to go down. I will try smaller portions to see if that helps. Maybe i am eating closer to 3 oz and i just don't realize it when i measured it out. I am 22 pounds down and really excited for the future.

I was also sleeved on 7/10. I am on puréed for one more week. I am down 22lbs which is great because when I came home from the hospital I was up 5 lbs! I have had stalls on & off for several days but I am still moving the scale downward. I too get that feeling when I eat sometimes and for me it usually means I am eating too fast & filling up the baby spoon too much in one bite. I have to remember to practice chewing 20 times before I swallow and pick the spoon up again. I need to set up that habit now because after I move to the next diet level it will be harder to do & I need to slow down.

Hey everyone! I was sleeved two weeks ago and I have been feeling great. Surgery day I was 275 and this morning 262.5. I see the high numbers on here and I get a little discouraged. I think I must be in a stall... the numbers just aren't moving like they are. I am getting in 60 grams of Protein, under 600 calories, and under 50 total carbs. Does that seem right to you? I am still in the full liquid portion until Monday.

Hey everyone! I was sleeved July 14th and 3 weeks post op, I'm doing great. No nausea, no pain also started feeling hungry a week ago. I was upgraded at my follow appt Friday. I am eating soft deli meats and mushy foods as well as still sticking with Protein Drinks and what not. I went back to work about 10 days after mainly because, as a nurse, I lift more than 20lbs so, I was unsure if I should wait the full 2 weeks my doctor originally told me to take off. I helped lift a patient last night and I felt a little pull around my biggest incision and that told me, I'm still healing. My biggest thing is: the struggle to stay awake. I know we can't have caffeine and I wasn't a caffeine heavy person prior.

When I was off, I was in bed by 10 so, basically I'm trying to readjust to the night shift hours and staying up past 10. Any other nurses or night shifters looking for other ways besides caffeine or have started drinking coffee? How has it been? Good luck to everyone!!

Was sleeved yesterday in July 31. Up walking halls. Coughing hurts like hell. Feel like I've been hit by a truck. But knowing this feeling is temporary will get me through.

I was just sleeved Friday (7/28). I am having a rough go of it so far. Thankfully after 2 days of heavy nausea it seems to have subsided a bit and I am starting to hold down Water and my Protein Shake. I feel week, keep getting nose bleeds, have a bad headache and my BP is out of wack. I am thankful the incisions and surgery pain are very mild. I seem to feel better when I get up and walk a bit but I really don't have all that much stamina. Hoping to turn the corner in the next few days.

My BP and heart rate is very low. The doctors don't thinks it's anything to worry about but I requested to talk to cardiology. Should be released tomorrow. Sleeved yesterday.

I was sleeved on 7/25. So far so good. My hardest thing is sleeping. Not comfortable. After laying for a while my incisions sting. Walking around the house helps a lot. Good luck July sleepers! This is going to be a great journey.

How much liquids do you drink a day? I was stuck at the same weight for 4 days but I just increased my liquids and the scale finally moved again. Friendly tip that helps me drink more liquids...you know those baby Water bottles....the ones you can chug super quick before surgery lol they are actually 8oz water bottles, they don't look it but they are! I put my liquids in that and find that I finish 8 oz way quicker then staring at a 16 oz water bottle or 20 oz bottle, 8 of those little water bottles throughout your whole day 8oz Vitamin water zero, 8 oz of crystal light with water, 8 oz diet snapple, 8 oz protien shake, 8 oz water, etc. lol ....I mix it up so I don't get sick of whatever I'm drinking. - cake walk. Maybe try that if you're having a hard time with liquids? don't get discouraged we're still soooo early in our journey....don't forget you just had an organ removed from your body ONLY 8 days ago...don't be so hard on yourself. You're body is still healing and trying to adjust to what just happened. <3

Yep the worst is the first two days. It is amazing how you do start to feel better within a short time. I was feeling 90 % better the end of the first week and then went back to work in my office the end of the second week. I am so thankful i did it and the surgery is behind me. Good luck and keep those spirits positive.

Thank you that is good advice. i do need t eat slower. I developed such a fast paced eating habit at work. I would just shovel it in because i was always pressed for time. I need new habits and i guess get a baby spoon...lol Thanks

Hey all... I was sleeved on the 28th...slowly starting to feel like myself again. The Constipation is brutal! I am about 4 days post op and can drink at least 4 oz every 20 mins or so, even more... I am trying to moderate it bc the nutritionist said to drink no more than 2 oz every 20 mins while awake. Protein Shakes less so than Water but still more than 2-4 oz. Just wondering if this is normal?

Surgery 7/18 and in a long stall!

Dropped 10 lbs by days 5-6 and now nothing. I get my Protein and liquids in pretty good. Just got green light for mushies! Soooo happy for it.. doing my greatest to remain positive! Slow loss is better than no loss

Started 294

Surgery 282

Current 270

Can't wait to exercise hard! This whole process started for me because of sports injuries and lack of proper nutrition on my part. I use to skate, roller derby then grub on chili fries and Coke... exercising stopped but not the eating. After two broken ankles, blown out knees and a boyfriend who cooks very very well I ballooned 60 pounds and could not get down. I have always struggled with weight and I've managed to maintain good health and remain active but knees are so bad these days. Remaining as optimistic as my Ortho . Super excited for this journey! Enjoying the ride

I probably do need to increase my liquid intake! I am tempted to just chug a bottle instead of sipping.

By day 3-4 I was taking gulps not sips.. I get it, I understand! I was always one to chug. I could drink whole bottles of Water in one shot. Miss that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
