How to simply track my eating and drinking? Apps seem too complicated.

Recommended Posts

I got a few apps including Baritastic. They are so complex. I want to QUICKLY log in my fluids or Protein, not search for foods or figure out which "meal" to call it. I can't figure out how to just plug in x grams, then later, another x grams. Or x oz Fluid, then later another x oz fluid. Etc.

Anyone have an easy way to spend seconds tracking instead of feeling stupid and wasting a half hour?

Spark people is super easy- you can even scan the bar codes on packages and then adjust the serving size.
There's a quick add option. You can also track your weight Water and exercise

I don't know about your preference but I also hate the tracking apps! I'm in my lower 20's but I still hate wasting the time to try and figure it out ever time. So I have a small 5x7 food log that I keep in my bag everywhere I go. It has a section for food, Water, and exercise so it's super easy to quickly write down how much and what I ate/drank. I got it from Michael's on sale, I believe it's by create365. (They also have stuff on amazon!)

You can put in in your planner if you use one. Check out habit tracker, bullet journaling on Pinterest

I like MyFitnessPal. It's free and easy.

I am also a fan of MFP. The tracking gets easier over time because you will have a list of your most frequent meals. I spend less than 5 minutes per day using the MFP app because everything is already there.

I save time by planning what I'm going to eat for the whole day and tracking it all in the morning. I can adjust at the end of the day if I added anything or didn't eat something. I use my fitness pal though I've heard not everything is completely accurate on it, I still find it to be the best for me.

I got lazy inputting info on the apps so stopped using it. Eating smaller portions is how I "measure" my meals now, so I measure how much food I put in my small plate (usually I'm good between 4 oz - 6 oz of food).

Height: 5'0"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
