Alternative to walking after surgery

Recommended Posts

What are alternatives to walking after surgery?

I have peroneal tendonitis and am currently in a boot to restrict movement. I will force myself to walk at the hospital, but I won't be able to take walks on a regular basis. I do have a stationery recumbent bike. Would that be okay to use?

I'm going to talk to my surgeon on Tuesday but also wanted to get thoughts and suggestions here.

I honestly doubt i walked as much as most of the people here. I have a really bad back and had a flare up after getting home after my stay in the hospital. I just slowly paced my room or the hallway of my apartment a couple times a day until i felt better. Take your time and do what you can.

I would say something is better than nothing. Just do what you can do and like my surgeon always says your body will let you know whats best for you good luck on your journey im sure you'll do fine

I think the recumbent bike would be good, it's to get things circulating. Maybe pump your arms up and down some while pedaling.

I ruptured a peroneal tendon a number of years ago and used a recumbent elliptical bike - rather than the go around motion it's more of a push back and forth motion which was fine with the boot on. In fact, it's still my fave cardio equipment piece - I have bad knees. Good luck.

I have bad arthritis in my knee, I walked for just a few minutes in the beginning and then after I got my strength back I got on our recumbent bike at home. Definitely easier for me than walking. But I do find that walking is better for me cardiovascular wise. I say do whatever you can do - it's better than nothing.

i didnt walk as much as i should have, and i am ok. I probly have more gas pain as a result

tho.

opinion only...any movement is good,

blood pumping and lungs working a bit move out the surgery gas

for me...exercise is

i walk up n down hall a few times, carry a few dishes or do a small chore so it seems i am doing accomplishing something. I am extremely lazy tho...so take this with that in mind.;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
