My last clearance, the pulmonologist, is on Wednesday... and I am super nervous for some reason. I think it's because I don't know what they are going to do. I knew the cardiologist would do an ekg- no big deal.

I know I don't have any lung issues.... when I am around pets & smoke, I do wheeze and use an inhaler. I avoid pets and smoke and as a result have not used an inhaler in over a year. I sleep well at night, fully refreshed in the AM, don't snore....

what kind of tests do they do for a pulmonary clearance? Is it just the breathing test into a hose... then a nebulizer treatment and re-do?

Some people have said they have you do a a sleep apnea test---- what would make them want to do that?

Thank you all in advance.

They had me walk swiftly in loops around their office. They would stop me briefly at every lap and take my blood oxygen level and heart rate. I did not have to do a sleep apnea test because I was already diagnosed and being treated. For me, all the surgical clearance appointments were a breeze. Best of luck to you!

A sleep apena test would require an overnight in sleep lab. That isn't one that they would just spring on you during the appointment. I didn't have to have a pulmonary clearance - but in the hospital had to meet with a respitory tech. They had me blow into a spirometer to measure lung function. If it wasn't within the safe level, they would have sent me home with oxygen.

Thank you both for your replies!

I have the Pulmonologist appointment today at 2:30.

yesterday my Dr's office called to set up final clearance. I expressed my nervousness with the Pulmonologist for some reason, but she, like everyone here reassured me it's ok.

I just worry a lot

Yay. I'm actually in the room awaiting my clearance to be handed to me.

I was worried for nothing. The Dr came in, asked me a few questions, listened to my lungs and that was it. We started talking - having a few friends in common. After 10 minutes he said he has to see other patients.

he said there is nothing for him to do, and that I should do fine with the surgery and good luck!

Thank you all for listening and help reassure me about the test.

My final clearance is Aug 24th.... then get to submit everything to insurance 🤞

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
