18 weeks post op and struggling with weight loss

Hi everyone!

I'm 18 weeks post op and I've been struggling with my weight.

I was loosing around 4-5 pounds per week, but it's been 2 weeks since I stopped loosing weight and started gaining it!! It's frustrating me a lot because I had lost around 63 pounds but gained 6 pounds again.

I feel like I've been eating more that I used to eat the first months and I'm not sure if that should be that way? I also stopped drinking my Protein Shake, for some reason I was feeling that it was what didn't let me loose weight but I don't know what to think now.

Is it normal? Is there anything I can do to start loosing weight again? Any advices?

Congrats on the loss! It's normal to progressively be able to eat a little bit more over time. Since you've cut out your Protein Shake, have you been replacing the content with a lean Protein? I'm nearly 6 months out and have played around with my diet quite a bit. I always end up running back to my Protein Shakes because it's so difficult too meet my minimum protein intake without them. Maybe the protein deficiency is aiding the weight gain.

This just happened to me -- I am 19 weeks post-op and about 3 weeks ago, I hit a wall. I was losing 2-3 lbs a week and then BLAM! nothing. My weight was fluctuating up and down a pound or two every day for 3 weeks. It was driving me crazy.

Just 3 days ago something seemed to break and I'm down 3.5lbs in 3 days. I did literally all of the things they tell you to break a stall -- upped my Water, logged every single thing that went into my mouth, changed up what I was eating and changed how I was exercising. I have no proof, but I think what broke things for me is radically upping my Fiber (I prioritized getting 25g a day above everything, including protein) and completely cut out dairy. (I am a vegetarian, but I went totally vegan for the past week.)

I was super upset during the stall -- I would blame myself, yell at the scale, etc. Just keep fighting your way through this -- it sucks, but I promise you it will break.

One thing I learned on my journey is that it's not linear. My weight loss chart looks like a jagged mountain, with the trend being downward.

I know it's hard, but be patient and continue to do the things you know are good for you. This is not a time to panic or give up. Your body is doing something. Positive changes ARE happening and just because it's not reflected on the scale doesn't mean its not happening.

An example: I've not lost much in the last few months. Like 5ish pounds? I don't even know. BUT, I've gone from a size 10 to a 6!!! It's mind boggling and doesn't make "sense", but I don't care.

I wasn't -and am not- really used to weight or even check the amount of Proteins or carbs or others in my meals, I didn't want to feel pushed to do things in a ver strict way, so I don't really think I've been completely replacing the protein shake in my meals. I think I'll have to start being a little bit more strict with my diet and maybe start looking up some diet plans to follow until I feel confortable.
And as you said, I think I'll end up running back to my protein shake aswell!

I was just talking with my sister about this! I think it's just about a little motivation, I haven't been feeling pretty good in many ways, seeing the scale stuck and going back up really got me upset and started feeling the way I used to feel before surgery, blaming myself for everything.
It kinda makes me feel better to know that other people go through this also, maybe it's not just me, maybe it's about time.
I'll try to start doing all you said -I'll try cutting out dairy and upping my fiber- hopefully it will help!

Thanks! I think I needed to read this, it IS frustrating and I actually kinda gived up this past week, I can't really see any change reflected in any way, not in the scale neither in my clothes, but hopefully I'll get to see some changes soon!

PS: Can't wait to be size 6 someday, haha [emoji28]

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

        Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
