Abbie719 8 Posted July 29, 2017 I ask people with experience about the sleeve surgery and about 60% of people tell me don't do it. I am 240lbs and 5'5 height and I want to do so I can look good and boost my self confidence. I also love food and I can't stop eating. So I'm kind of scared because of the people who told me no. When I go to parties and they all skinny, i get excited about doing the surgery. I personally want to have the surgery for me, my body and for my overall health. What do you all think? 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted July 29, 2017 Ok. You say you ask people with experience - what do you mean by experience? You need to have your head in a place where food is not your 'comfort friend', 'purpose'. And that takes concerted effort and sometimes therapy. AND surgery is not magic, it's a helpmate. qy22 30 Posted July 29, 2017 Doing this surgery is a very personal decision that you can only make for yourself on your own. I'm a day away from my surgery date and I couldn't be more excited. Yeah it can be scary but do the cons outweigh the pros. In my case they do. Good luck in making your decision.Sent from my SM-G920T1 using BariatricPal mobile app
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted July 29, 2017 If you are doing it just to look good, or mainly to look good you are going to be miserable. If you do it for health you will be more satisfied. 1 Greensleevie reacted to this
graziellabs 28 Posted July 29, 2017 You have to do what's best for yourself. What are some reasons people tell you not to do it? I had some people tell me also don't do it but they have never had weight issues so they would not understand.
andvalenciavsg 2 Posted July 29, 2017 If you do it for purely what you will look like it is not really a surgery you should have. For me I am getting it because I want to make sure I am healthy for a long time. Looking better is just a plus side but not solely the reason why I'm doing it. 2 LeLe3 and ProudGrammy reacted to this
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 29, 2017 1 hour ago, Abbie719 said: about 60% of people tell me don't do it. @Abbie719 hi newbie!! i love my sleeve, its been my best friend for almost 6 years. most people on the board regret not having the sleeve surgery years earlier. What are OP comments/concerns about the sleeve??? one of the main problems that go with the sleeve, is possible acid reflux. if you already have heartburn, its usually not advisable to go with the sleeve. and there is a possibility to get heart burn PO.- this might be something your "friends" are talking about. problems can happen with any surgery, (WLS et al) . it's ok for OP to give their thoughts/opinions about sleeve (or any WLS) - listen "briefly" to OP, then politely tell them to go jump in the lake ooooops - i mean tell them you appreciate their words/ thoughts, but you are still making a decision. - if that doesn't work - THEN tell them to jump in the lake LOL - remember - opinions are like arshollllles - we all have one!! continue to research, read board, ask more questions from doc/NUT knowledge is power- at the end of the day YOU are the one that has to come to a decision and live with it!! (being biased i vote for the sleeve)any day of the week, and twice on sunday!! good luck for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life!! kathy 3 Greensleevie, kamjmm25 and Sheralyn2017 reacted to this
Greensleevie 451 Posted July 29, 2017 If you talked to people who have actually had WLS and have been successful with it, most would tell you they're happy they did it. This surgery isn't some fly by night diet we do to "get skinny". It's a serious, life changing medical procedure that should only be done only after some heavy duty research and contemplation. It won't change your love of eating, won't choose what you decide to eat, and the chances of you staying "skinny" (IF you even get there) are less than 50% if you haven't made the decision and have the emotional tools to completely change your lifestyle. If anything, people who are unprepared are more unhappy than they were before because they went through a life altering surgery with all the possible side effects and none of the results. It really has a tendency to complicate things in our lives, too, so be prepared for that. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
Abbie719 8 Posted July 30, 2017 I agree with you all but I'm tired of my immediate family treat like I'm stranger because of how I look. I'm tired of ppl asking how many months are you. I'm tired my husband telling me to loose in order to have a baby. I'm going for it because it's time to give myself a chance to enjoy life and gain self confidence 2 Greensleevie and ProudGrammy reacted to this
