Gained 2 pounds!!

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 7/1/17 and it's been about a month now since my surgery. I used to weight myself every single day until I started loosing less at about 3 weeks post-op. I am now at the solid foods stage and noticed that I'm probably eating more than I should. I also noticed that I can eat a lot of chips (which I know it's not good, and I stopped already.) but I weighed myself on Thursday, 7/27, and noticed I had gained 2 pounds! I really started freaking out. I'm kind of scared that I'm over eating and starting to gain...?! Is that possible?? Since my operation I have lost 26 pounds... counting my pre-op stage I have lost a total of 40 pounds.

Being completely honest... i don't weigh my food, and don't really follow a strict diet. I am kind of doing the "Low Carb diet" because that's what my dr kind of told me to do... I have a 4oz smoothie in the morning, then a 2oz tuna salad for a snack. For lunch I'll have a Soup, then a small fruit after like an hour because I get a bit hungry. And for dinner I'll have like a 2oz chicken with a tiny bit of soup. My struggle is in the night!! I'm a night eater. I get so hungry like around 8-9ish and I feel like o start to graze. Any suggestions??? I'M REALLY SCARED to start gaining weight after just a month of my surgery! [emoji31]

Since you haven't been weighing yourself, it's hard to say whether this is a typical weight fluctuation (likely), or actual gain (unlikely).

Create a plan, and then stick to it. That is the only way you are going to be successful long term post op.

What I do, is I have a marker board in my kitchen. I eat the same thing everyday, and as I eat something on my list, I check it off. (It takes less time for me to do this than to try and remember what I've eaten that day to figure out what I have left..).

My list: (Yours may need to look different)

1 egg

3oz Beans (black, pinto, kidney, etc.)

4oz cottage cheese (I eat full fat usually)

4oz fruit (any type.. mostly berries, and not dried)

1oz salted nuts or seeds

4oz meat or fish

veggies (unlimited non-starchy veggies)

8-16oz coconut Water (for potassium and magnesium)

Vitamins

I also drink about a cup of milk, mixed in with coffee and tea, spread out through the day.

If I'm hungry at the end of the day, there are always veggies that I'm allowed to have. A nice 16oz cup of chamomile helps settle my tummy for bedtime too.

I have no refined sugar or grains on my list. They have no real nutrition for the weight loss phase. My energy levels are steady (and if they dip, it means I need to eat). I don't get bored because the actual meat, fruit, veggies.. they all change each day.

I feel that I can eat this way indefinitely. When there is a birthday or celebration.. I can splurge and eat some cake or whatever. As long as those splurges are only on special occasions, it doesn't interfere with my weekly caloric consumption, and I don't feel restricted.

Living without food-rules got me to 300+ pounds. Some of us simply HAVE to put rules into place! The trick is to sit down and figure up the rules that YOU can live by, and that will also help you meet your nutritional/weight goals. I encourage the use of recipe nutrient calculators to figure out what you need to eat to meet your nutrition goals. It's a lot of work to make a plan.. but after you put the plan in place, your work decreases a LOT.

I should add that I'm 4 months postop, so my quantity of food is much more than you can do yet. At 4 weeks out, my diet was mostly milk, cottage cheese, and yogurt. This particular plan was evolving between 8-12 weeks. The main thing was to make sure everything I ate contained significant Protein.

How about Protein in the evening rather than carbs (chips)? Just an idea. I've been feeling "hungry" (weak) around 10 pm and I'm only 1.5 weeks sleeved. So I have started making a Protein Drink and having just the first few sips then, saving the rest for morning.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
